Very nice traditional country pub. I'm very fond of this sort of style of place. The food was very good, particularly the pie, which is a properly encased shortcrust pastry affair and not a 'stew with a hat'. Unfortunately when we visited the first two beers I tried from Walden brewery had turned badly and the third wasn't up to much either. The landlady was very good and let us sample stuff and replaced my dodgy points free of charge without fuss. On another day I'm sure this would have got 5 stars.
Good pub! Very generous portions of food but unfortunately I wasn't very Lucky with my choice. Choose a beef pie which was massive and came with chips and vegetables.. however the pie had more mushrooms and onions than beef, and I hate mushrooms and onions. So, half of the pie was on the plate. There was no information about it in the menu.
Lovely pub, great people and atmosphere. Great selection of real ales, homemade food. They have parking on site, along with a spacious beer garden - with chickens and ducks to boot! Also look out for their regular music sessions and gigs - a fun night out.
Went to The Bluebell on Saturday evening. Service was terrible, waited 2 hours for our meal, even bringing another beer took 20 minutes. When the meal eventually came, it was nothing to write home about. I had the beef ribs, about 5 deboned ribs, one of which was 90% fat. The meat was properly cooked and well seasoned, that's all one could say about the meal. For the price you can do far better elsewhere
Went on a Saturday evening. Food was variable. The liver bacon and mash was good. The fish pie was ok. The solitary vegetarian choice available that evening was a veggie burger and chips and despite the server claims that the burgers were hand made this had almost certainly come straight from a shop and was dry and tasteless. The ice cream was good, the chocolate brownie was inedible. When told this the server offered no apology or refund. They almost certainly have too many real ales for turnover: the Saffron Brewery stuff was stale although the Adnams was ok. A shame as it is a lovely place.
We stopped for a quick drive when passing buy, it was the first time we had been to the Bluebell Inn, it was very friendly I had a lovely pot of Earl Grey and my husband said his pint was good. We will be going back to try the food very soon.
Great little country pub. Tucked away in the beautiful Essex countryside. My partner and I had the most amazing duck for dinner here. Thoroughly recommend.
A family lunch and well worth it.
Roast dinner for adult, pizza and chips for children with lovely ice cream to cot
Chocolate torte was delicious. Good service .
