We went here the other night with some for the first time. We didn't have a reservation and the place was packed at 7pm. Surprisingly it was only a 20 minute wait. We sat in the back room and it was pretty loud. It was hard to have a conversation at the table. Our waiter was quick and explained the menu. It was nice because they had a little bit of everything. There were vegetarian options, seafood, and your basic sandwiches as well. We shared an appetizer platter and stuffed artichoke hearts with goat cheese. Then for dinner I got the lamb shank. It fell completely off the bone. It was so tender and flavorful. The desserts were the icing on the cake. I got the chocolate mousse cake. It was not overly sweet and the cake was moist. Overall I can't wait to visit again.
We celebrated my birthday at Amel's on a recent Saturday night during Valentine's Day week. The restaurant was quite full but without reservations we were quickly seated and received excellent service. We ordered hummus as our appetizer which was delicious! My dinner was the chicken taboo which was served with a tasty salad. My meal exceeded my expectations and my husband felt the same about his! This is such a cozy restaurant which made for a wonderful date night!
Updating: This still is my favorite Mediterranean restaurants in The Burgh. The staff is very helpful with great recommendations. I always enjoy eating there.
My feeling is everything is better with feta ♥️ This is my favorite Mediterranean restaurant. Today I ordered lunch and picked it up to take it home. Please be aware, if you see that delivery is available, that is a scam. Amel's is a dine-in or pick up restaurant only. They will not pay fees for a delivery service. I don't blame them. I think it's worth either eating there or picking up and enjoying their beautiful restaurant.
We were in the mood for Mediterranean food and called here around 5PM on a weeknight to see about reservations for 7:30PM… The lady advised they would still be very busy, but made reservations for us. We were seated immediately upon arriving, but they were still packed! (So, be sure to make reservations if you want to dine here)
The menu is quite large, loaded with lots of Mediterranean items. Service was mediocre, would definitely have been 5 stars with better service.
The food was flavorful and decent. The steak on their kabob was cooked to perfection. One of my favorite items was the baklava ice cream, which they make there; it was outstanding!
I’d definitely return!
My Aunt took me here while I was in Pittsburgh and it was amazing. The way the back was decorated was vibrant and cozy at the same time which is so inviting. She had a gyro place which was really tasty with generous portions. I had the couscous dish with grilled lamb and chicken in a seasoned sauce with vegetables. I forgot the exact name. I was simply blown away. The hard part will be to go back and try something different because it was just that good. It came with a choice of salad and I chose the Amel's. The dressing was delicious and the olives were the kind of flavor you always want when you buy good olives but rarely actually get.
The salads and dressing were prepared well. The artichokes with goat cheese and balsamic were delicious. Large menu with a variety of options. The staff was helpful with gluten free options.
Initially our experience was very promising. Appetizers were excellent and service was great. Unfortunately, our entrees were bland, tasteless, and unsatisfying. The food, mixed with the dated atmosphere made for an overall disappointing experience that was not worth the price.
Spent a lot of time at this restaurant/bar but made the mistake of calling one day to ask Michael a question (because I live out of state) about a drink he made. Big mistake because he basically belittled me to the extreme for bothering his majesty!! Very rude and definitely will not return when in town again.
