Whitlow's is a time capsule.
If you like Russ' you will enjoy this place. The servers took great care of us and the food came out pretty quick for Sunday at dinner time.
My wife got a cheeseburger which tasted like a cheeseburger, no complaints.
I got fried perch, and this is what I'd come back for. I don't know that I've had better perch in the area and I really enjoy fried fish. If you're looking for some good fried food in an old school environment, you can't go wrong here.
Also, they still have a salad bar. How many places still have a salad bar? Not many.
Your grandpa probably loves this place. Family friendly. Don't bring somebody here if they would be offended by taxidermy because they will be very offended.
Great place for some comfort food! Loved my 1/2 pound burger and everybody else’s food looked great too. Nice staff and cool setting. Feels very welcoming and homey. I would highly recommend and will be back in the future!
Not fancy but good, simple food! Perch dinner was definitely worth the trip - crispy and good flavor. Burger was fresh made - not pre-formed or frozen. Salad bar was great - fresh and lots of toppings and salads to choose from. Chicken fingers were typical frozen, deep fry as were the fries. Everything came out hot and tasty! Service was excellent, too!
I've only gone here for Sunday breakfast with my father & brother-in-law. Although the place is a bit dated, the customer service is the best. Our waitress Debbie is amazing. She is so good at meeting our needs before we ask. The food is good and priced well.
Gotta agree with Nicole Boguslawski's review: the place seriously has a vibe.
Frankly, it's like taking a step into the past, for better or for worse. The place's history definitely supports that; having been a capstone of that areas local community for decades. Interesting stuff if you know who to talk to.
Beyond that, the staff know their stuff and as down to earth as you could hope for. The salad bar has everything you could want and more from a small town diner-slash-bar-slash-hotel (with adjacent corner store). I haven't tried everything on their menu, but the liver and onions and the biscuits and gravy (two absolute *must-haves* in a good classic restaurant) are really good. Going to have to retry the biscuits soon to see if they still hold up.

Nothing special. Prices average, amount of food less than most others. Near the end of both my husband's and my plates, we both had a long wavy piece of hair. Kinda freaked us out. Both of us, not one of us. My steak tasted pan fried, although flavor was good. Wished it was grilled. Baked potato was teeny weeny...about 4-5 bites. And the salad bar is minimal. Atmosphere older, but clean. Style older but maintained. Staff kind and nice and the gal that waited on us was good. It was just OKAY... not recommended. My hubbies fries were gross he said. Not done enough...he wanted chicken strips but they were out of them. He got a burger. I kid you not ...it was small...it left an inch all the way around bun to be filled. They forgot his bacon...it was 1 pc. Ripped in half to cover the burger. Wasn't impressed.
5/11/2024 -- 15 minute wait for our drink order to be take. Had to ask a bus person for the typically given bread basket as our waitress wasn't around to ask. Food order was taken 30 minutes after our drinks were brought to the table Service was Horrible!! Waitress didn't pay attention to getting us refills as we ran out a few times in the LOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGG wait. I get the Fried Perch everytime I have previously gone here and it's always been wonderful, sometimes a couple bones in the whole meal but most of the time none.... This time.... HOLY CRAP! There were at least 4 bones in every small bite that were so sharp I am surprised my tongue wasn't bleeding from too many of them stabbing in so hard that a few I had to really pull to get out. Definitely the WORST SERVICE AND FOOD we have ever had there in the 40+ years we have been going there!!! Very unhappy with this experience and will be a while before I will go back as it's not a short drive there but one that I was willing to do previous to this experience.
