Our company had a contract here for us to stay at. This is the most dirty, disgusting hotel I’ve ever been in. Thankfully we have a much nicer place to stay since they had a fire happen. We couldn’t be happier at the new place! Fire did them good.
My sisters and brother stayed here for 5 days in November. We travelled to Eugene for a family function that was being held in the hotel. Our first impression on entering the hotel was good. The front lobby was inviting and there was a lower area with comfy chairs, a fireplace and a piano. The rest was all down hill. ||||Shuttle Service:||When my sister called to make a reservation for the shuttle from her home, she was told to call the hotel the day before arrival to book the hotel shuttle. When she called to book the shuttle, she was then told they don’t reserve in advance due to flight arrival delays and that she was to call once landed.||||We were also told 24 hr notice was required to book a shuttle at checkout. We went to reserve the shuttle 24 hr prior to check out at 630 a.m. but it was already booked. I asked what the hotel could do for us then and was told to call a cab. We asked if they could book a cab for us and we were told “this is not a service we provide”. Front desk didn’t even offer a taxis service number, we had to ask for it.||||Housekeeping||We were not advised at check in that 24 hr notice was required to have our rooms cleaned. ||||One of our rooms did not have hand towels or a bath mat. I placed notice for housekeeping with bath towel replacement - housekeeping took away the used towels but did not replace with clean towels - I called the front desk stating that we did not receive clean towels - they were not delivered that day. I had to call again the next morning and they were finally delivered. ||||My sister asked housekeeping for a hand towel and to empty the garbage cans in her room. When she returned to her room 4 hand towels were delivered but only one garbage was emptied- she had to call the front desk for the remaining garbage to be taken. When the person came to collect the garbage she was told we had to place garbage outside of the room in order to have it picked up.||||Cleanliness of Room||The overall cleanliness of the room was below acceptable. The bathroom door was filthy with finger prints and smears. Our patio door was very dirty and didn't work properly. I found empty water bottles under the bed from previous customer(s). Both our rooms had a serious ant problem not only in the bathrooms but our night tables between the beds. Spiders were a problem as well. I had to shake them off my clothes which I had hung in the closet. When we complained about the ants, we were told it was because the hotel was close to the river. ||||Room Accessories||We appreciated the microwave and mini fridge. However, there was no writing paper or pen. There was no directory/map of the hotel grounds, no listing of shopping, restaurants, entertainment or taxis service in the area, nothing indicating what time the hot tub was open and closed. ||||Positive Comments:||The beds and pillows were very comfortable.||The lobby and fireplace area was very nice.||Sweet Water and it’s Lounge had good service and food.||Hotel view and grounds are lovely.||||When we returned home, my sister wrote an email to the hotel manager Alexis on November 24, 2022. To date she has not received a reply.
As you get close to Valley River, you’ll notice tons of shopping nearby, some of it within walking distance. The staff is always friendly and asking if you need anything. The views are spectacular!! And there are lots of little spots with comfortable chairs and feet warmers so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the view of the river with the vibrant colors of the leaves. The rooms are immaculate and you can tell they pay attention to every little detail. The cute balconies on the rooms so you can enjoy the view and get some fresh air. I can go on and on but I’m running out of characters :) but last thing I can say is this place really makes you feel like you’re at home! If you want to feel like you’re staying at a family member’s guest house and you’re not just another reservation #, I highly recommend this place, it truly is amazing!
I first stayed at VRI about 40 years ago. VRI was, in my opinion, the best hospitality venue in greater Eugene. I was a huge fan. As recently as 2019… 18 years after I retired, I booked vacation travel lodging at VRI out of respect and confidence in the hotel’s superior service and quality. My most recent visit to Eugene (January 27 thru 30, 2023) was disappointing. The quoted room rate (nearly $190/night with tax) was alarming… but I reasoned that everything is more expensive today and I had learned to trust in the value and quality that this property had always delivered. ||||We checked into room #134 at about 4PM on the 27th. My first unpleasant surprise was learning that there would be a $10/day parking charge added to the room rate. ||||Room #134 is a nice, large space with a comfortable bed and a river view. We enjoyed the room until about midnight that first night when the activity in the room above us became so raucous we were unable to sleep. ||||We visited Sweetwaters for breakfast the next morning (1/28/23). The server was pleasant and attentive. My veggie omlette was very nice. My partner’s Eggs Benedict was not. She found that the dish had a taste of a greasy grill. ||||We spent most of the day at a birthday celebration in North Eugene, returning to our room at about 4:30PM. I was alarmed that the door to #134 was ajar (NOT LOCKED). Entering the room (without using the key!) I saw that nothing seemed to be missing but that the waste baskets had been emptied and the soiled towels were gone. Replacement towels were stacked on the counter. The bed had not been made. I went to the front desk to report what I found. I was told that if I wanted “full housekeeping service” I had to request it 24 hours in advance. I was not given any explanation for the unlatched door. I requested “full housekeeping” for the next day (1/29/23).||||On Sunday, 1/29, we spent time visiting friends in Eugene, returning to our room at about 3PM. We found that our room had not been visited by housekeeping at all. I reported that to the front desk. Within 10 minutes a young lady arrived and did the “full service” I had requested the day before. ||||I had reserved a table for 4 at Sweetwaters at 4PM that day (1/29). Again, the service was pleasant and attentive. Our meals were excellent. ||||I understand that the hospitality business has changed with the arrival of COVID. My sense, however, is that many venues have used COVID as an excuse to cut corners… particularly on housekeeping. Housekeeping staff is paying a price because tips must certainly have fallen off… and staffing must be difficult to maintain. ||||I hope that Valley River Inn will address the issues we recently experienced. I did provide feedback t them the day after we checked out. There's a lot of high quality competition for them in Eugene.
Definitely older, and it shows. Some of the guest rooms have been "kind of" updated, mine has modern art and headboard, a nice, new mattress and the typical flat screen.
Bathroom fixtures and carpet are definitely not updated, but are functional. A/C works great, bed is very comfortable.
Room has a fridge but no microwave, (kind of a bummer since I'm here on business for two weeks) but also kind of understandable because 1. People are rude and messy and 2. They have a restaurant they want you eating in!
Restaurant food has been reeeaaalllyyy good the few times I've been in, wait and bar staff are friendly and attentive.
Front desk staff are friendly and helpful. A couple of days after check in, I had a maintenance issue. I went and asked for it to be fixed the next morning, they had it done before I got back from dinner.
Room is spacious; outdoor pool and hot tub are empty during this time of year; there is a washer and dryer that look pretty clean.
Overall a decent place, definitely not a sleek new hotel but clean and serviceable.
During our brief overnight stay we encountered friendly service, and clean facilities located near lots of food and shopping options. Our room seemed newly updated and in good shape but the building seemed like it has been there for a long time. The hotel isn’t brand new but we had a comfortable albeit short stay. The hotel does have a shuttle to the airport so that’s a plus.
DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!
One of the worst hotel experiences I've had and I do not recommend this hotel to anyone! Booked a room on Valley River Inn's website with a king bed which stated it was non-refundable with check-in time being 4pm. We drove for 4 hours to get there right at 4pm so we could check in and change for a show we were attending at 5. Our room was not ready as advertised on their website and we were told by the front desk that they could not tell me when my room would be ready. We left to find a place to get changed and went to the show. Returned to the hotel at 630pm and asked if our room was ready and after looking for a while, the man at the front desk said we were up-graded to a room with a microwave. I asked what kind of bed was in the room and he said a queen. I asked for the room I paid for which had a king bed and he said they were over booked and had no more rooms with kings. I am not a small person so this bed did not work for us and we got little to no sleep that night before our 4 hour drive home. I would really like to know what happened to my room that was not ready at 4 but was given to someone else by 630. This hotel is under-staffed and from the looks of the room we were DOWN-GRADED to I doubt they even bothered to change our sheets. Again, DO NOT STAY AT VALLEY RIVER INN.
Great location and responsive staff. The rooms need a deep clean. Stained walls, dust bunnies, and dirty bed skirt.
We were a little surprised since it is over a 3 star hotel. We expected better.
