Visited with family for the carvery. Service at the bar was good but the table we were shown to was very sticky. The room was busy and very noisy which meant conversation at our table was difficult.|The food was pretty good. The meats were all well cooked and still juicy but the portion was very small. Choice of veg was basic and the green beans were hard and dry but the gravy was decent.|I didn’t pay but the bill seemed expensive for what we’d had and in all honesty I’ve had better meals for far less money at a Toby Carvery. Not sure we’ll be back.
Excellent experience, staff were so welcoming and attentive. After going about our day we spent the rest of the evening in the restaurant/bar area it was such a great atmosphere the staff and other customers/locals were all so friendly. our hotel room was spotless and had everything we needed. I was surprised how spacious our room was too which is always a bonus. Highly recommend! Can’t wait to come back.
Lovely rooms , nice short walk from the bar. Young waitresses were lovely, Carvery was sumptuous , leeks in sauce omg. Yummy best cauliflower cheese.. much more elevated than the usual pub carvery. Will definitely travel back from Manchester to come and stay again. So much for the money.. ????????. Debbie and Tony
Went there for a Sunday carvery, the meats were all good quality and the chef wasn't tight with it either. Everything else was nicely cooked too and good choice of veg, nice roasties etc. I'd recommend to book if travelling we was lucky as a walk in as was busy.
We went for the Sunday carvery, the food was good, the staff poor, we had eaten our meal and the young girl came and asked if we had finished, we said yes she took the plates but did not offer us the dessert menu or even asked us if we wanted anything else. We sat there for a while, no one came back, so we got up paid for our meal and left.
We were going to be in the Hanmer area on Friday afternoon, but not sure of the time, so I sent an email asking if food was served all day. Yes, was the prompt response. So arriving about 3.45 entered the bar area. There was only one table occupied, a lady with young daughter. There were menus on the bar so we had a good look. And looked, and eventually as no staff made any appearance, left. Hospitality is suffering, so we were so glad to see the reopening of the Hanmer Arms. Shame we weren't able to sample any of the food or drinks...
Excellent meal and very reasonably priced for great quality steaks . Great staff and friendly atmosphere, will definitely be back soon. Can highly recommend this lovely country pub and restaurant. Give it a try you really won’t be disappointed.
Very disappointed. Lack of lighting in car park meant it was tricky to find our way in. The dining area was chilly. There was a log burner but unfortunately not lit so not a very cosy atmosphere on a November night. I had booked a table for 5 on the strength of a midweek deal advertised on FB (free starter or dessert with any main). However the serving staff knew nothing about it. Eventually agreed to honour the deal when we queried it. Menu was very limited, chips and peas with most main dishes. Unfortunately there was no roast ham for those of us that wanted it, so had to choose something else. No peas available either so everything came with salad.
Food was well cooked and tasty but 3 of us were unable to have the dish we wanted from the menu.
Inevitably when the bill came we’d been charged for the starters and desserts! Had to query it again, due to lack of handover between serving staff.
The staff were charming in very difficult circumstances, and did their best to put things right, but no one seemed to be in charge.
