This place was awesome ????!! The owner Jim is a very professional and customer service oriented guy!! He made us feel like we were long time regulars, and it was our first time in. We ended up getting free shakes and the hotdog's surpassed our expectations. If you're hungry, in Homer and want something better then a gas station hotdog? Check Jim out he knows how to treat his patrons!!

This place is an absolute gem in Homer, AK. The owner couldn’t have been more friendly and kind - I wish I had gotten his name. He told us that his Mac and cheese was the best, and when we said we were Mac and cheese connoisseurs, he gave us a free sample to try. It was indeed some of the best I’ve ever had - perfectly cooked, with the perfect amount of cheese, some gentle spiciness, and lots of love cooked into it. I had the Honey Crisp corn dog, and it tasted like a perfect hot dog wrapped in a light, crispy honey doughnut (in the best possible way). It was amazing. My comrade had a hot dog with cheese sauce and chili sauce which was unique and delicious. If you like hot dogs, Mac and cheese, and really nice people, come on down to The Gourmet Hot Dog Shack in Homer and see the awesome guy whose name I forgot to get. You’ll leave full and happy and all the richer for having supported a fantastic local business.
My hubby and I had just tied the knot on a nearby glacier in early September. Upon returning famished and cold, we quickly changed into something warmer and met our awesome photographer at The Gourmet Hot Dog Shack (a place we had been eyeing since arriving in Homer). On the way over, we realized we had forgotten to have our pilot sign as a witness on the marriage certificate. Luckily (and though not advertised on the menu), owner John graciously filled the role, and as an ordained minister no less! The food was delish, John ***and his famous buns*** were delightful and we love having this story as part of our amazing adventure!! We hope to visit again!!
My spouse and I had lunch here this last week and we both agree it is wonderful. The owner, James, seemed to truly care about our opinions and engaged in friendly conversation with us as we enjoyed our meal. We both had a hot dog and we shared a corn dog. I must say we would not have ordered the corn dog if we knew how filling the hot dog was! Definitely worth the money. All beef, no chemicals and fillers and the bread was fresh! I am a firm believer that a hot dog is an American classic but it shouldn't be so hard on the stomach, this place gives you the best of both worlds. A great dog and a satisfied stomach, no belly upset at all, you can tell it really is a GOURMET hot dog!The owner expressed his excitement about staying open for our community even after the summer, something we all know doesn't usually happen. So thank you James, for the friendly service and delicious food. We have been telling everyone about it. See you again soon.
This place was great. We each had a meatball sub, loaded for a really great price. I was surprised. Lots of different options and great desserts. We had the brownie ice cream. Was amazing. Good location and the owner was really nice. Sandwich buns were really nice home made, great texture and hold a everything in it perfectly. Highly recommend this place as a local resident.
I was just trolling around town and wanted to grab a hot dog. I paid for a pretzel hot dog and a shake. The price was reasonable regarding that fact that it is homer. The owner is always kind and welcoming! Would definitely recommend if you want something easy and quick especially if your walking around homer and get hungry????????????
I don’t write many reviews but after trying the hot dogs for myself & seeing the proprietor completely lose his cool online to those trying to give him constructive criticism, I feel compelled to say something.
First off, the hot dogs may not be ballpark but there is nothing gourmet about them & with the vast majority of condiments being an additional charge, you’re looking at the cost of a full course meal at a restaurant with much larger portions & better quality.
Secondly, the proprietors level of unprofessionalism is out of this world. I have honestly never witnessed such atrocious behavior towards a customer base. He is an unhinged individual who was lashing out at people trying to help promote his business by sharing his menu on social media. Calling the locals mentally ill losers who need to get lives when all they were doing was responding to his unprovoked outbursts. He even challenged one to a physical fight.
Judging by his replies here on Google, he will probably accuse me of never visiting his establishment or call me part of a hate group which is simply not the case. Just sharing my personal experience.
I would not recommend this establishment nor will I ever go back. Judging by what I witnessed online, I would be concerned with the safety of customers. Say the wrong thing while there & who know what could happen. Be safe & go elsewhere.

These are some of the best hot dogs I've had. I had the very first ever Peanut Butter Bacon Hot Dog he's ever sold. I am very honored. The owner is also a dawg for real. One of the nicest guys. Go to the Gormet Hot Dog Shack if you would like the best hot dog you've had. Very much recommend. Plus free cookies because we're his "gourmet customers." LET'S GOOO ????????
