Stunning apartment with history and a modern and spotless huge bathroom. The skylights mean you can see the castle which in itself is magical. The booking, welcome parking etc. was seamless. The galley kitchen well stocked with appropriate cutlery and crockery plus tea coffee etc. the fridge on the landing had a nice bottle of fizz, plus milk jam marmalade and butter. A huge home made loaf was waiting which we devoured for breakfast superb! The whole ambiance in the apartment makes you feel very special to be a guest at this historic castle and a great nights sleep testament to the comfortable beds and superb bed linen. Can recommend the whole experience delightful and memorable from start to finish . Thank you to Caroline the super host ! |
I am afraid I have to agree with the previous review. We arrived on the same sunday and were shown to room 4 by a very pleasant Portugese young man. The room was nice and had a brilliant bathroom with a shower over the bath. Nice toiletries were provided. The only thing I didn't like was having to put the thick Roman blind down whenever we used the bathroom as houses opposite could look straight in the clear glass windows.||Our evening meal was delicious. As we sat at the bar deciding what to order we mentioned it was our wedding anniversary and Neil immediately poured us a complimentary glass of prosecco which was a lovely gesture. We both had whitebait starter and then I had the smoked haddock and husband had the beef stroganoff.||Chatting at the bar with Neil we found out that he was taking a weeks leave starting on the Monday morning and that is when things started to go downhill!||At breakfast on the Monday when our cooked breakfast arrived the only thing that was warm was the sausage and egg. The mushrooms, beans, bacon and tomatoes were cold and they had no black pudding. As we were the first to be served I said to the waitress "Before you bring any more food out make sure it is warm as most of this is cold" She didn't even offer to take our plates away to warm it up.||On the second morning, like already mentioned, there was no brown bread or teapot lids. We waited a good while for our cooked breakfast then the waitress said that none of the orders had got to the kitchen!! We had both ordered omelettes hoping they would be light, fluffy and fresh but when they arrived they were pretty awful and almost burnt on the bottom. We couldn't be bothered to say anything this time.
Arrived in afternoon friendly welcome. Shown to room 5 on top floor, nice clean room with tea n coffee and bottled water. Lovely bathroom.|Went down to bar for afternoon drinks, very quiet but nice feel about the place.|Evening meal was extremely tasty we both had steak It had that lovely lingering lip smacking taste. Hubby had a mushroom starter which he enjoyed I don’t bother with starter as I would not be able to eat my meal. We did check out the dessert menu but decided against it there was plenty to choose from but I like a hot pudding with custard but that’s just my preference. Anyhow wasn’t sure I wanted to take the taste of the meal away with more food.|Bottle of house wine was in with the deal as was the hot tasty breakfast the next morning.|Can’t go wrong really give it a go.|||
On arrival asked if they had a gluten free menu. To my surprise the chef came out and offered to amend most of the recipes. They have got gluten free pizza bases and pasta, he advised the pasta would be about a 20 minute wait. A free gluten free garlic bread was given so we weren't kept waiting. The young lady behind the bar was extremely attentive and couldn't do enough for us. They were also able to do gluten free batter for the fish and chips which seems very popular. Will definitely return.||
Although the building is situated on the main road, the substance of the sandstone walls secures the ambience for diners in the Wedgewood Blue-coloured interior. A decent menu and good food. Staff OK, but not as exuding as the decour. Comfortable enough room and fair breakfast. Great location, but probably better places.
Good size room. Enough space for a travel cot without feeling cramped. Had 2 evening meals, both of which have been superb. Breakfast was also very good. Staff are very polite and helpful. Decent drink selection at the bar.
Had a lovely weekend stay at the Castle Inn and would highly recommend for anyone looking for a break in the north of England! The manager was great and really welcoming, giving us a great recommendation for places to visit.
We stayed in room one for two nights (the one with the stunning restored copper bath!) which was superbly furnished and tastefully decorated.
The restaurant served delicious meals too - we ate there on both nights and can seriously recommend the haddock and chips with homemade tartare sauce!!
All in all, a little gem perfectly positioned for the lakes and the west coast - I'd highly recommend a stay at the Castle Inn:)
I had a meal at the castle in hornby on new years eve with my husband. After a sizable wait for a table we were seated and told very rudely by 'Stacy/Stacey' (supposed manager) that we only had 2 hours and we had to leave as she had doubled booked virtually all the tables that night. We skipped starters because of this and went straight for a main. My husbands steak was very tough and my salmon came out cold. I understand they were very busy however at the prices they charge this was not really acceptable. 'Stacy/Stacey' was spotted by my husband drinking an alcoholic drink behind the bar whilst mid service? Might explain for her rudeness all night! The building itself is lovely and very well maintained - the ladies toilets were brilliant, however it was the awful service that let this experience down.
