Should have listened to my gut when I pulled up outside the empty takeaway and the man behind the counter was standing in the corner, staring at me all the way into the shop. But I was hungry and my usual chip shop wasn’t open so I thought “what’s the worst that can happen” and went in. That was my first mistake.
I placed my order from the vegetarian menu (which is extensive) and was very surprised to see that everything was cooked to order, even the chips. The server has a very strong accent and was difficult to understand and he clearly had the same issue with me because he cooked a portion of chips and some kind of fish patty that I hadn’t ordered, didn’t cook half of what I’d actually ordered and tried to charge me far too much for the privilege.
After a long discussion during which he made it clear that he considered me to be the problem, he eventually reduced the bill to a completely random amount that bore no relation to my actual order. I should have left, but at this point I was losing the will to live so just paid what he asked before waiting for it all to be cooked. His colleague continued to stand in the corner staring at me without uttering a word.
Opening the packages was a magical mystery, thankfully they didn’t include the fish patty I hadn’t ordered but I did receive the chips I didn’t want, which somehow managed to be dry and greasy all at the same time. I genuinely couldn't tell if they were home made or frozen. The curry sauce was neither curry nor sauce, just tasteless brown water.
The samosa was, surprisingly, not only edible but almost pleasant - although also very oily. The rest of our order was either overcooked, greasy and unpleasant or missing.
Would I go back? Not if it were the only chippy in the country. The only thing that didn’t go straight in the bin was the samosa.
i went about 5 months ago been in surgery because they had to remove the bones from the fish out my throat it smelled wierd and chips were soggy and undercooked fish was thin as ote and payed a absolute fortune please never go to this place 0/5
Having moved to Brigg 4 months ago, and realising there are few places to get a really good meal of high standard, I tried here as the chippys in Brigg are dire.
The establishment is run by a really nice Asian couple, and had allsorts of other things to try on the menu, including samosas. I asked if they were home made - no, was the reply. So I knew that the fish and chips I ordered was not going to be up to scratch.
For £8, I got a small haddock, which was frozen, not fresh, tasteless, and the chips, you could hardly see because they were so thin!, the curry sauce, bland, watery.
Another to strike off of the list, thankfully I am relocating, so Briggs eateries are welcome to Brigg folk.
Was the worst takeaway fish and chips I've ever eaten. The owner couldn't speak good English. I couldn't understand him or he couldn't understand me either. Chips were undercooked. Cod was so small and batter was non crispy hard on edges all round and next to no fish in it. Also it wasn't cooked long enough was in shop less than 5 minutes for order cook and pay. Was that bad that I had to bin the lot. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT.
Excellent jumbo battered sausage & chips. Cooked fresh and very good service from the owners
Some of the nicest fish and chips around, and reasonably priced as well.
You couldn't ask to meet any more friendly owners either, always make you feel welcome and have a chat.
They are closed Monday and Tuesday though.
Edit:
Unfortunately the shop is under new management as the previous owners have retired.
I've tried them twice since and was not impressed either time.
Best fish and chips, great portion sizes and the customer service was amazing Good down to earth people
Chips were awfull bland thin no taste, peas were just weak and watery . Sausage was OK but for the price wouldn't bother head into brigg or scunthorpe for better
