Best KPortal Reviews

This was my second visit to Saddlers, I was impressed with the pies on my first visit, and the Cumbrian Breakfast I had on my second might well be the best cooked breakfast I’ve had to date. Really tasty meats, hash browns and tomato all cooked to perfection, toast from their bakery and quick friendly service, all for a tenner. Can’t do much better than that.
We popped over with friends for National Pie week. 2 of us had the pheasant and mushroom pie, it was absolutely delicious. The steak and ale, and minced beef and onion also got big thumbs up from those who ordered them.
We were staying locally and wanted to find somewhere for breakfast.
After a little walk around the village we landed on Sandler's just as it started to rain.
Our two dogs and ourselves were welcomed into the cafe.
We ordered a traditional and a vegetarian breakfast, a coffee and a pot of tea.
Our drinks were brought over swiftly by a lovely friendly young girl .
The cafe was quite full , and the next set of people were invited to share a table. There was a mix of locals and tourists. There was a steady flow of people collecting orders and coming for take out.
Unfortunately the food took just short of 30 mins but was very good once it came out.
Saddlers is a bakery too with choices of breads, pastry's and such.
We took a scotch egg to share for our lunch which was large , it was really good!
Overall a good place for a filling breakfast to set you up for the day, with friendly staff, and at a reasonable price. Thank you.
Have been here twice, once for the pie, once for the full English. Both times were absolutely amazing. Some of the best breakfast/lunches in the north - the owners are clearly very talented people. Great ingredients, lovely atmosphere… will be back again (and again)
Never thought to find such an exquisite cafe serving recipes that's out of the box, a Mexican style soup with lots of condiments to add and the apple and almond pie is so delicious we ordered a second helping. Wonderful service, saw them extending hours to accommodate a young family. And cool music, great recipe books on the shelf.
Went back for more, everything sold out, not surprising. We had the Vege breakfast which was so good I am eager to get the Vege sausages.
The pandemic has not been kind to Alston's cafés and restaurants. So it takes something special to keep one going and increase its popularity. Other reviewers have mentioned the excellent food quality. But I think it is the kitchen being visible and the overall good natured service
The best steak pie I have ever eaten with equally delicious chips and gravy.
Quality produce and a lovely team running the cafe.
Worth stopping in Alston for lunch if you are passing through.
Found this place today while on a visit to the area. Food and service was excellent especially the fresh baked bread. Loved the Homemade Chips. The Sausage and Bacon in my sandwich was locally sourced and tasted beautiful. Would definitely recommend and will be returning.
