Awesome welcoming pub, locals really friendly too
Usually have live acts/singers at weekends (generally start at 6pm Saturdays and 8pm Sundays)
Beer is always 1st class, as is the friendly atmosphere.
A proper 'pub' that has decent entertainment, decent locals and decent beer! No food served and rightly so, because its a real 'boozer' namely, a place to go for a pint and enjoy the atmosphere whilst you drink it! Top Marks = 10/10 ????
The great thing about this historic inn is its location, which was originally known as “Ryd y Gug,” or The Ford of the Rustling Waters, referring to the crossing of the Taff Bargoed just above where it joins the River Taff before “The New Bridge” was built. The area is now known as Quakers Yard because Quakers, who in c.1650 came to a farm on nearby Pentwyn (Top of the Hill), established in 1667 a burial ground of that name on land bequeathed to them. It’s not difficult to find the actual burial ground, which is a walled area with seats but no gravestones just below the New Bridge bus stop. It’s a pretty area with footpaths leading every which way, including the Celtic Trail alongside the rustling Taff Bargoed River and the Taff Trail across Cardiff Road. Mother Nature abounds at every turn, making me think that the Quakers must have been delighted to have found this “Garden of Eden” in the 17th Century. Of course, where better to retire to after all this exercise than the Quakers Yard Inn, which I found to be disappointing, given its historic location. Friendly staff and convivial atmosphere, but nothing much else to recommend about it. Just another beamed-ceiling drinking hole with darts and a pool table and a whole lot of noise. Could be any pub anywhere.
Proper pub, landlord friendly and takes time to chat as do the locals ....our first vist will definitely call in again ????
Great friendly pub to visit on a Sunday. Good atmosphere and juke box
Have had two cracking days / nights here for the rugby...The San Miguel on tap is awesome, had about fifteen pints of the stuff! Also had bread, and home made corned beef stew (cooked on the log fire) for half time which was lush but I think it gave me a bit of a hangover the next day. Will definitely come again but only have the one bowl of stew!
Cracking pub. Great beer. Great atmosphere.
Love this pub it sells beer and beer some beer and it's dog friendly
Good food nice pint great service thanks
