I have had 2 hip replacements at the General. The staff on ward 16&14 orthopaedics are very helpful, cheerful, provide great patient care, and together with members of the physio and OT department are 100% more caring than that of the Royal and Glenfield, who unfortunately seem to have lost the ability to treat patients as individuals and as such you don’t have a name but become, the dislocated hip in bed 6! A harsh but true comment as I’ve overheard them talking.
The General is quiet even when busy and staff appear to respect each other and the patients in their care.
One negative note, the orthopaedic pre op clinic would benefit from some better organisation and communication with ward 18, the admission pre op ward. So much time is waisted on duplication of admission notes and patient information. The junior Drs who’s purpose is to examine the patient and deem fir for surgery, are in my experience a waste of time not only for the patient but for themselves. On my last attendance at this clinic, 3 weeks ago, the Dr I saw took over 30 mins to read my notes, was on and off the phone numerous times and had to be prompted to see me by one of the nurses. The examination of my heart and lungs was farcical as he listed to both through 3 layers of clothing. He hardly asked me any question and I was in and out in about 5mins. The General is a very good hospital with high standards of care and out of the 3 in the trust, given the choice I would always choose the General. Not quite 10/10 but nearly!
Coming from the birthing suite around 4 months back, Don't want to mention my whole experience as I understand it's extremely busy and they are trying their best. And every place has goods and bads but focusing on positivity is key!
Especially posting a review with the hope that the main midwifes see this and it is for them. Thankfully I had a good experience with them and hats off to the midwives. They definitely are doing a tremendous job!
With regards to my birthing experience.. I would definitely like to thank the midwife by the name of "Maryam" she was a student midwife but now is an actual midwife (as my baby was the 41st baby she helped to deliver which made her a actual midwife!)
And the main midwife, can't remember her name too well. I believe"Charlotte" was her name. Also "Emma" . She was extremely sweet and kind, so was Maryam and all the others helping, extremely encouraging. Especially the one who took care of me throughout. She stayed past her shift too! which I thought was very kind. My first birth so I had no idea what to expect. And they were very kind. And best off, I got to hold and meet my baby! The midwives are definitely doing a great job! May God Bless them all! Thankyou!
I would like to caution mothers to be who decide to come here and receive care throughout their pregnancy. If you wish to birth your child alive then please go elsewhere. They do not know how to communicate with their patients nor give the right advice to their patients. There have been numerous reports of fatality of newborns due to their lack of knowledge and care.
I have just had an MRI at the mobile service in the car park at the Leicester General Hospital and I would like to say like to say how impressed I was with the kindness and efficiency I found there. They are a great asset to you,
Staff & treatment were very good.
Warning!! take plenty of pound coins as the car parks are still in the dark ages with cash only machines that give no change.
Very professional and Helpful front desk staff and experienced medical staff. The inside restaurant serves fresh tasty and hot meals at a very reasonable price.
Exceptional homegrown talent in the nursing staff, midwives, doctors and consultants.
They clearly are understaffed but they perform miracles and are so supportive and caring.
Top people. Hope the buildings get rejuvenated/rebuilt in the near future.
I was in general hospital for over a week with pain due to syst, bringing up blood and not eating or drinking couldn’t keep any fluids down my blood pressure was low and they told couldn’t do the opp as an emergency stayed in for over a week for them to do nothing other than watch myself deteriorate, they then decided to discharge me and told me I would get a surgery letter through post, which I explained due to not eating and drinking nothing would I still be around then they said they would put a referral to doctors due to mental health which frustrated me and it’s nothing to do with my mental health my mental health is fine it’s the pain I’m in!! I don’t think I’ll be coming for surgery
