You can enjoy a broad window to see the landscape. I visited on Sunday, so I needed to wait around 40 minutes. But when staff designated the seat for window table. It was so nice I could look under the city and also contact cathedal!
Although you should order a drink and other menu to sit window table, I had enjoyed a good time.
We bought a bundle of lunch and Yayoi Kusama mirror exhibition.
The loo location is great with beafull view. The food was ok. Well presented (as expected from a restaurant in this location) but the flavours were average/ average plus. The Tataki tuna was the better dish out of all the rest.
This place is trying to achieve a modern fine dining look but unfortunately falls short due to haphazard service performance, portion sizing differences and some food being underseasoned.
The service was a little lacking at times, we ordered two tuna tatakis one clearly had more than the other. I was challenged by the waitress when I asked to have them changed but eventually they were changed.
We ordered the halibut for main course which came with unseasoned broccoli, literally no seasoning at all and there was no salt or pepper on the table.
We were waiting a long time to receive the drinks and desert menu. The custard tart that we eventually ordered was great.
Very beautiful view of St Paul’s Cathedral and Millennium bridge! But the place feels more like a casual cafeteria than proper restaurant. Food and drinks were underwhelming.
We came to Kitchen and Bar after the Yayoi Kusama exhibition. The dinner was pre booked into our ticket. Lovely menu with a range of options, I believe selected by the artists. Three courses, very filling and attentive service. We chose to sit at the window overlooking the view of the river and St Paul’s.
Highly recommend.
Excellent salt baked celeriac with Colston Bassett Stilton and pickled walnuts, Yukon gold and white onion soup, Atlantic halibut, Japanese-inflected scallop, vermouth and bay-leaf trifle, custard tart. Coffee and Cretan wine was also excellent. Wonderful unaffected service and the best views on the Southbank from floor to ceiling windows. How could anyone not love this place? 144 pounds for lunch for two does seem a bit much until one considers the quality.
Very good experience - a special and memorable meal here. Well presented and interesting dishes. Beautiful mocktails. My husband loved his steak and said it was the best in a long time. Stunning, unforgettable river views as on 6th floor of the gallery. Excellent red wine - see photo. Not a place to bring anyone with hearing difficulties as there are no soft furnishings - it’s a loud canteeny space with dragging wooden chairs. Also NOT cheap but I would definitely say worth it for a special occasion with an art lover.
Went after the Kusama exhibit, as part of the dinner + exhibition package ticket, and what an absolute let-down the dinner experience was.
The disappointment started with an initial drink at the bar before dinner (“discretionary” service charge added by a waitress who was absolutely incompetent, didn’t know what she was doing and was unpleasant on top of it). When we made it to our table, we waited 20 mins before finally asking someone to please take our order.
In all fairness, our table waitress was lovely and did her best to salvage the experience. She can’t be blamed for the food menu though, which managed to both be overpriced (£75 for dinner and the ticket, and yet you insist on charging extra for sides that should be included in the mains? Kind of obnoxious) and utterly under-seasoned. Soup, bland (until salt added). Trout tataki was tiny (but good). Unsure how hasselback potatoes drowning in sour cream are an actual main dish, but the bavette (sans blood pudding) was a very good cut of meat, unfortunately drowning in a watery jus and split hollandaise.
I love visiting the Tate but that restaurant experience was absolutely terrible. Never again. For that price, go elsewhere.
