Best KPortal Reviews

Have only been to this family-owned bakery twice (with a local). They open early on Saturdays and provide friendly, efficient service. Their teacakes are amazing (massive and full of fruit). I also enjoyed their singing hinnies, scones and granary bread.
After reading rave reviews for this bakery, selling fresh bakery items, it sounded too good to miss. We bought a scotch pie, beef & potato pasty, hedgehog loaf and a singing hinny. Both pastry items were very (fridged) cold, having almost tasteless fillings due to the temperature and hard pastry. The singing hinny had very little fruit in it and was very stodgy. However, the hedgehog loaf was lovely with a course texture. We visited the bakery at about 9am, so would expect bakery items to still be warm from the oven. Very disappointing.
Awesome Pies, Cakes, Brews & Free Banter. Great prices, quality food an drinks...
Although we live in Newcastle, my grandfather Bill Robson lived in Berwick and was in the police...so before I was born my family has been going to this bakery and we have never been disappointed! Even now, especially with my father, we travel the hour and a half to get 20 scotch pies and the ginger biscuits (it has almost become a ritual)!
This bakery has always been the "small, family owned" type and anyone can see it the moment they walk in, so it always feels friendly and welcoming! I sincerely hope that in the future my children will be able to do the same journey from Newcastle (they already love the pies that I bring home)! Then it will be atleast four generations of our family that has enjoyed the whole experience of this store.
I know that what I've written isn't entirely about the bakery itself, but I can't think of a better way to explain our love for the place, other than explain that over the decades we just can't stop returning. Hopefully this will continue for decades to come!
(With much love to the owners and staff from my family and myself.....thank you for your fantastic service over the years xxx)
Went at lunchtime on a Saturday. Didn't have much of anything at all left. Bought some scones, a white fruit scone and a brown fruit scone. Don't know how they had the audacity to call them fruit scones as virtually no fruit in them at all. The brown fruit scone was the worst it had all of 3 sultanas in the top and nothing anywhere else. Both scones were very dry. Not very friendly staff it felt like I shouldn't even be in the shop. Ended up going to Greggs instead. Needless to say I won't be going back to this bakery.
Bought some croissants which were small and bready but not unpleasant. Service was not with a smile, got told off for leaving the door open and then one of the children got snapped at and told to watch when using the hand sanitiser which scooted down the glass counter even though it always does that apparently. Maybe try moving it somewhere else then?
Friendly staff, served quickly on a busy morning. Plenty of choice, great selection of baked goods.
Excellent Chicken Curry, and ham and egg pies! Friendly service.
