Best KPortal Reviews
The actual restaurant is on the second floor, I wasn't able to ask if there's an elevator.
Walking in, I thought I knew what to expect. It was around 6 PM, we are the first to arrive and are seated by the hostess. She apologizes about the menu not being laminated or the proper one she ordered.
Okay, no problem. I had questions about the hot pot and the BBQ, it was my first time here. I was told I should have read the menu. Not rude, but not exactly worded nicely.
I wanted to do just the hot pot but you can do both. The price is the all you can eat and it is per person. If you want only hot pot there is another price and meat options.
As we waited for our items and for the hot pot to set up we noticed they were short staffed. It would have been nice to be made aware of this, as we waited for our water after asking three times. The sauce bar is different than I'm used to, along with the dishes for the sauce. A little innovation is fine but next time I might just take my bowl to have sufficient space to make my sauce rather than the four small sauce holder.
The food was good, but not the best. Music was repetitive and it did have more of a pop, or bar style mostly to do, I'm guessing, from downstairs. There was a family there who enjoyed both hot pot and the BBQ. They also had questions about the menu and left before us. It took a while for the hot pot to be set up since it is a separate electric pot that goes on the table.
Not the best place for fast and efficient service yet. They have some staffing issues to address. Still the place was clean and organized. The bathrooms were clean near the back, to the right of the kitchen.
Absolutely love this place, hands down BEST authentic Korean food I've ever had. Fast service and extremely nice owners and staff. I would eat here everyday if I could. Highly recommend!
Very nice place!
Had service of meats, veggies, seafood for the cooker, and full plate for the soups.
The ladies were very friendly and helped us with cooking everything and talked about the various dishes and sauces.
Serioulsy will be back again.
Interior renovation was slightly done, restroom is much better than the previous business. Side dishes were great, lettuce tasted fresh and the meat was excellent. Yet, nothing special compare to other Korean bbq near this area other than they open 24hrs. Prices starts around $38+ which is common now days. Only reason I give 4 stars is because although the servers were very polite and excellent, they don't seem to have a sense in serving industry or they still might be in training. They wouldn't come to the table to check on us until I call them. But I'm sure they can improve it and hope to see on my next visit.
The meat selection is the same as other Korean AYCE. Their hotpot has very few choice of vegetables! Some food are not fresh. Kimchi and spicy pork taste tainted today. Service is fair. The waitress doesn’t take empty plates timely and she never checks if we need more water in our hotpot.
I will never go to this restaurant again.
It is Wednesday today. We came in around 5:30pm and we are the only guest until around 7:00pm. Another two guests came in around 7:30pm. We are the only two guests until we left.
The interior redesign is very nice. I love the ambient lighting and energy lighting mix ...since the lower floor is not currently serving we went to the 2nd (top) floor for the Korean BBQ. We met a woman at the front who greeted us and was friendly enough and she took us to our table. I immediately noticed the view which isn't exactly the most beautiful but it's pretty good imo for Duluth so I tempered my expectations. We were a party of 2 and were presented with only 1 menu. We attempted to communicate our desire for a second one and the original woman that sat us went and retrieved another waitress who was equally as friendly and met us with a smile. She gave us the second menu took our drink orders and we browsed it while we waited for the drinks. It was when we got the first drink that things started to not go as well as I hoped. We ordered the pink lemonade and sweet tea.. my lemonade tasted like it was left in the car all day and I only got 3 or 4 ice cubes ... needless to say they melted pretty quickly and my drink never actually chilled ... the sweet tea was flavored with Stevia or Splenda...whichever of the 2 is the most disappointing..it made the tea equally so. Unlike other Kbbq spots you do get to self service your side dishes and there is a small bar opposite the dining area near the door as well as two serving stations in the center (technically 3 but the middle was empty) the the bar was a cold bar so there we had a total of about 6 -8 options (kimchi...bean sprouts ..pink_purple radishes etc) . The first serving station in the middle of the dining area had steamed white rice and fried rice and rice cakes in the red sauce (apologies for not knowing the correct name) and what looked like greens (I'm gonna assume seaweed but I didn't try it so I wasn't for sure) we did try both rices and the white rice was as expected however the fried rice was not. It was bland somehow... but I wouldn't know this until we went back to the table.. the 2nd working station in the middle of the dining area was for the toppings and sauces ... donkatsu...hoisin.. jalapeños..garlic.. sesame oil ... chili oil , s&p...and a few others. We get back to the table and continue to review the menu and order the $45 option all you can eat. Our plan was to start familiar and branch out.. so we ordered the pork belly and the Boneless short rib. We discovered the drinks weren't exactly what we thought and just decided to order something different when she came back...we both headed back to the stations because we figured we could use a bit more sauce between the 2 of us and while we chose the order was brought out and placed on the grill and table (pork belly first) . The first sign, the meat was placed cold on the grill.... in our experience this isn't done because it gives the meat a more gray unappetizing color but things are already in motion so we just go with it. While it cooks our waitress leaves to tend to other things which is expected and we sit and discover the fried rice was not a good choice. Neither were the side dishes...the radishes were prepared differently some how & tasted like they soaked in water It was a bit over cooked and lacked flavor big time (keep in mind I know the rice is suppose to be on the more "sticky" side so we expected that..but this WASN'T that at all). We wait for the waitress for a while before deciding it best that we tend to the food on the grill which started to burn (but I like a little charred edge so no biggie). we ended up tending to it pretty much on our own up until it was done & in danger of over cooking. Our waitress came and cut the meat & divided it (still on the grill) btwn both sides....we didn't mind this but we DID mind that before we could get the cooked meat off /as we ate it...she immediately placed the RAW short rib on the grill & raw meat juice ran over and onto the meat we were eating and she kept alternating btwn using the same tongs for raw meat to reposition /move the cooked meat onto our plates. that was the final straw for us. We got the bill ($130) & left
Not too impressed by quality of meat, side dishes and their pricing. We’ve had premium galbi before and here it was close to flavorless + chewy seem, you can tell it was not fresh and has been sitting in refrigeration for a while. The restaurant was empty when we were there but the ambience was very nice.
We loved our server — she was very sweet although she spoke limited English. We love kbbq and wanted to try some new places, don’t think we’ll return here unfortunately.
I am a huge fan of Korean bbq. I love k factory, 678 and 9292 bbq. So thought I would take my family try out this new business. It’s $30 all you can eat, however ages 4-8 is half price (as so they said). We went a family of 6. 2 of them are ages 10 and 7. So I thought my 7years old would be half off. The bill came out $180 not mentioning anything about tips being added so I had cash ready for their tips. I questioned them why wasn’t my 7yrs old wasnt half off. They said they would refund us $15 (which they never did ). They came back charging us $223 and said that includes tips. I feel like for a new business that just opened up shouldn’t cheat people like this already. I’ve been to many Korean bbq and never had to experience this kind of service. We won’t be coming back by the way food was alright wasn’t the best. If they continue their business like this, probably won’t last long in the city of Duluth, where there are 20-30 other Korean bbq out there.
