While picking my kid up from a birthday party during the busy Memorial Day holiday, I somehow blew my transmission and could not drive my vehicle. I was stuck with a screaming toddler, and With it being a holiday, it was incredibly difficult to get a truck out there. When I got This towing company on the phone they actually had a heart and showed compassion for my situation. Not only did they get a truck to me timely, but they got a second truck (flat bed) to me swiftly once we realized the wheels locked. I’m beyond grateful for the customer service I received.
Was linked to these people by way of AAA, and was not happy with their service. I waited 2 &1/2 hours for my tow truck to arrive and they weren't even responding to any of my calls. Only by calling back AAA and having them reach out to the to the business was I able to get a hold of them. I said to just cancel my service before they even had the chance of potentially breaking my vehicle when trying to get it one of their trucks. Call AAA back and request AAA of Tallahassee to tow your vehicle for better service if your around the 32303 area, instead of these fools.
Waited 3 hours on a tow which was called in high priority by trooper. Then towing company ripped off my bumper when dropping it off. The owner refused to tell me for two weeks where the car was. When I finally received it back. The company welded the bumper on and painted it with spray paint. Owner will not call me back. Terrible terrible place and very dishonest owner. Calls himself a Christian.
This was the worst customer service experience I have ever had in terms of professionalism and ethical business transactions. My car was towed on Sunday, 9/20/2020, at 5;30pm by this company (it also goes by the name "5 Star Towing" in both Tallahassee and Monticello, FL. Originally, I wanted it towed to Tire Kingdom to check if it had starter issues (my car would not start). The towing professionals said that 5 Star Towing/W.T. Grant's also does auto repair and they would "beat other people's prices." I agreed to have my car towed to their lot instead to have it serviced, and the $56 tow fee would be rolled into the repair bill. at 6:30pm that night, the dispatcher called to say the charge would actually be $65, but I told her it would be rolled into my repair bill. Come Monday, I heard nothing from the company until my 3rd attempt to reach them by phone. They said they were working on it. At this point, I still had no diagnosis, paperwork, or job completion timeframe. Come Tuesday, I called over seven times throughout the day and left two voicemails, and every extension I tried -- even the one reserved for police and AAA towing -- went straight to voicemail. When the night dispatcher finally answered after 5pm, she said she'd relay my frustrations to her supervisor. I also emailed the address on the company business card to express my concerns about not being contacted in over 48 hours about my vehicle. Come Wednesday at 11:30am, I still had no updates or outreach from the company. My boss graciously transported me to the company's office, where the owner, W.T. "Bill" Grant IV, acted as though he had never received any of my calls, voicemails, or my email. he hurriedly drafted a quote of how much it would cost to fix my car, around $460. I said that I did not want them repairing my vehicle in light of their disorganization and lack of communication with me for over 48 hours; I stated that I would pay my $65 towing fee and have my vehicle looked at by Tire Kingdom. The owner then became indignant, saying I had wasted his time, to which I responded, "I could say the same considering your lack of correspondence with me." He never apologized for his lack of communication nor did he thank me for alerting him to the problem of his phone constantly going to voicemail. Worst of all, he stated "the card machine is down" so you must pay in cash to get your car, which was $65 for the towing fee. My boss drove me to withdraw cash, and then she needed to go to work for an important meeting. Upon asking the owner for a receipt prior to giving him the $65 cash, he printed a receipt for $161.74, stating "The diagnostics is part of the fee; if you had let us work on the vehicle, it would have been free." Mind you he did not say this verbally or in writing, and he has no website to enforce this policy. Moreover, he did not say that the price was $161.74 until I returned from the bank. I called his attention to the discrepancy and lack of written or verbal agreements, and the owner stated that he would not argue with me and that I had wasted his time and been difficult to work with. Since this was a civil matter, the police could not help me. I was basically extorted x2.5 the original towing cost because this owner was being vindictive and petty because his poor professionalism, organization skills, and ethics led to him losing a potential customer. I paid the $161.74 and towed the car to Tire Kingdom via Parkway Towing for another $60. Tire Kingdom fixed my vehicle for $471 -- let me add that the 5 Star Towing would've cost basically the same with their supposed 10% AAA discount added to my estimate, so 5 Star Towing is not the best price in town as originally promised. I debated suing this company in civil court, but decided protecting other consumers using free resources such as BBB would be enough justice. Hypocrisy, poor accountability, and unethical business practices are defining characteristics of 5 Star Towing/W.T. Grant's Wrecker & Automotive Services.
AAA called them for me. Grant's quoted them 30 minutes or less. An HOUR later AAA called them back because they were not here. They told AAA they would be here in 30 minutes (again). AN HOUR AFTER THAT AAA called them AGAIN and they admitted that their driver was making other stops on the way, but that he would arrive in a half hour. AFTER A HALF HOUR I watched the icon for the driver's truck go in the opposite direction from my location where it proceeded to remain stationary for ANOTHER HALF HOUR while I sat on the phone with a AAA supervisor, after their dispatcher had told AAA he would arrive momentarily and for the AAA dispatcher to observe them change the arrival time after they had confirmed to her that they world arrive at their estimate.
My repair shop was closed by the time they arrived pushing me a full day into not having my car, and I will have waited over 3 hours for a 30 minutes or less arrival time.
The driver was perfectly pleasant once he finally arrived, but I've never had this bad of an experience with a AAA tow. If I ever have another car issue, and AAA dispatches them, I will make sure that they use a different service provider. I will neither use them nor will I allow them to be paid on my behalf again.
Worst towing company ever (5 Star Towing) more like 0 star towing! This is a family owned business and the boss is horrible! I have two guy friends who worked for him. He does not pay hourly rates at all. He literally only pays them commission of $10 but expects them to do 40 calls in a week just to make $400. Not only that, he is never on time with their paychecks! These are hardworking men who have been taken advantage of by this towing company! The department of agriculture and consumer services is who this company is under. Call them and file a complaint and get a claims lawyer if you have been taken advantage of as well! This company will not prosper!
Worst company I’ve ever dealt with. They towed my truck via AAA. The driver loaded it backwards. I asked if I should turn it around. He said no it’s fine. Well my bed cover blew up and dented my cab and destroyed my bed cover. Almost $3000 of damage and Mr. W.T. grant the owner is denying any responsibility. He won’t call me back. I went by there office and it wreaked of marijuana...can’t seem to find him. If you have AAA membership make sure they don’t send 5 star towing. Apparently he’s been run out of Gadsden and/or Jefferson county. Changed his business name numerous times because they are so terrible. Even the Leon county sheriffs office has him in their radar. He used to be Grants Towing I believe. If AAA uses them anymore I will drop my membership. Wish I could post no stars.
Tallahassee folks - If AAA tries to give you Five Star Towing tell them you want another service. 1 hour turned into 3.5 hours, but everyone complains about the wait. They said they arrived 1.5 before they actually did and I'm pretty sure the guy was stoned out of his mind. I was skeptical he would take it straight to the shop... so, I followed him and he turned the wrong way. It was a straight shot down the road. I had to call the shop so they could notify me if it arrived. They said the same service took a car to three wrong shops before it got to them yesterday. Luckily, it got there eventually.
