Small town Cafe - just how I like it. Breakfast served all day! I ordered the Vegeie Omelet, while the rest of the table ordered the Tuna Melt and the Turkey Club. Our waiter (Dylan) said it was his first day as a waiter. Very pleasant! The kitchen staff also popped out - equally pleasant. The food was very good - the staff accommodating. Truly ambassadors of the business and Sandstone!
Worst experience ever. I would rate this experience 0/10. I wouldn’t even give it one star. Took 50 minutes after we ordered to get our food as we watched our food sit up ready for 10 minutes before the waiter brought us our food. Fries were cold, eggs were cold, toast was burnt and soggy. Patty melt was wrong. Didn’t get any refills on water. There was a couple before us that waited over an hour and ended up leaving as they still didn’t get their food. Do not recommend. Was not that busy in there for the service and food to be so poor. Very disappointed.
This is a fairly typical cafe but with a bigger dining area akin to a Denny's. As others have stated, it does look smaller on the outside than it actually is. Parking is either on the street or in the lot across. They offer wi-fi but be aware it's open, no password needed (as I'm finding with a lot of local establishments). We felt the prices were a bit high overall. Loved that they had nice hot water in the restroom to wash your hands with!
Seat yourself when you walk in. There is lots of wood finishes so it is a bit darker inside with the only natural light coming from front and back windows, but gives it a cozy feeling. We were there before the lunch rush, around after 10AM. We ordered breakfast while commers after us ordered lunch and got theirs and finished before us. When we inquired, the waitress explained the gentleman at the counter had meatloaf and mashed and that it simply needed to be warmed up. Made sense (wondering if it were microwaved now) but the other couple guys a table over had sandwhiches/burgers & fries so I felt it was a poor excuse. I would have had more respect for a simple explanation.
Despite that, we were satisfied with our meals. It came out in waves. My Mom was very happy with her eggs ordered medium and stated this is the first time anyone cooked them perfectly! Her hashbrowns were a bit over crispy while mine seemed to have been just right. Her pancake was neither fluffy/cake-like nor deflated and rubbery but somewhere in the middle, as she likes them. I enjoyed my french toast as it was done also somewhat in the middle of doneness but with the small slices could have used another. The bacon was a bit rubbery for my taste, not crisp. I could cut it with a fork and eat it that way. As others have also commented, there was a good amount of grease used, reminiscent of how my grandma used to cook it all in one cast iron pan. Great flavor, just be aware if you are cutting out fats.
The coffee was good, a brand I had not heard of before but we could have used warm ups a little more often. They don't offer real cream nor sugar substitutes. When I inquired on the yummy looking cookies and asked when they had been made, I was informed on the date and it had been approximately 2 weeks ago and was promptly offered to purchase a box of Girl Scout cookies (thin mints were the first to sell out of course) from the window counter instead. I suggest asking the made date before ordering dessert.
It all comes down to your taste and preferences as everything is subjective. All in all, it was a decent and relaxing breakfast. It's a 50/50 decision for me on returning more often/again.
Service was adequate. Food was rather disappointing, even by rural/small town cafe standards. Cheap ingredients and inconsistent preparation and presentation of the same dish (my husband and I got the same thing and my bread was toasted, but his was not). Seemed clean enough but the atmosphere left something to be desired with harsh overhead lighting that detracted from the otherwise potentially charming interior.
Additionally, the menu was not the same as the menu posted online and has a number of dishes crossed out, including the ribeye. And the prices ended up being much more expensive that what is listed online as well as what was printed on the menu we were given while there.
I’ve went in a few Saturdays for breakfast and the food is good…. When there isn’t hair in it. One time, my eggs were brown and crunchy. There was a man in the back that was cussing and yelling very loud at the servers. Definitely not somewhere that I would want to take my kids if there’s grown men yelling and cussing at servers. The servers were great though. They came and apologized for his behavior and made sure we had everything we needed.
We stopped by for a little lunch on our way through town and our service was probably the best we've had in a really long time! Our server was so kind and helpful with our kiddo and our food was Very delicious! We definitely recommend going there and we look forward to going back again.
The worst food I ever had we were 1 of 2 tables in the restraunt Nd it took over 45 min to get our food.
My sausage was so burned i thought i was going to break a tooth.
My daughter asked for sausage and got ham.didnt dare say anything becasue ee didnt want to wait another 45 min.half the food was hot and half was very cold
I stopped in with my mother one day and the food was really good like the best in Minnesota but every time we are going to go and we stop by at different times in the day they are never open or like the one time we just find a parking spot and get out of the car a noon for lunch and they had the open sign on but just with in a minute the sing was off and they locked the doors why even have a restaurant if your not going to be open for lunch and dinner hours
