Best KPortal Reviews
I will preface that I don't know much about West African cuisine. I'm an adventurous eater, though, and have had and enjoyed many types of food, including Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Turkish, Afghan...and more. This food was the worst food I've ever had at a restaurant, and especially what I've ever paid $25 for. I came to this place starving, and asked the indifferent young man at the register for a recommendation, being a first time visitor. He said it really depends what I like and could not say anything else. I inquired what someone else who was in the restaurant was eating, and was told it was a stew with spinach, goat meat and egusi, something else that I didn't know. I asked what egusi was, and the young man just repeated the word , but seemed not interested to explain. As I was starving, at this point I just ordered whatever it was. The food was prepared quickly enough, and brought to my table. The goat spinach stew was warm and smelled bad, and the side dish that it came with was cold and came with a plastic wrap on, had no particular smell or taste, and was completely bland.
I took a couple of bites of both, but could not force any more down. The texture, the smell, the old-tasting goat meat... What a combo.
Now, let's talk about the ambience, or lack of it. This place charges $20-25 per dish, but other than the cheapest tables and chairs, there's nothing in this space to make it feel welcoming or nice, not to mention charming. For what they charge, I expected for them to have at least one thing really down: either the food, the atmosphere or the service, and I didn't think any of the things I mentioned were good. I'm surprised on the good reviews, and I admit maybe it was a bad choice of my part and an off day on the cook's part. I am not going to come back here to find out, though.

We were looking for a seafood restaurant that the hotel recommended. But we went to the wrong location, and it was just a fish market. But next door was a Ghanaian restaurant and decided to get some takeout.
I got Egusi with Fish. Heated it up the next day. It was so good.
I thought it was eggs. LOL. Turns out it's a seed they mashed up. It sort of reminded me of Ackee (Jamaican)
Genevieve Flo and Philjean were so friendly. We chatted while waiting for the freshly made food.
If we lived in MD, we would be going to try everything on the menu ????
Delicious food and very caring staff. They were happy to talk with me about the different dishes they serve, gave me tips on how best to eat it (gotta get that technique!), and my 2 friends and I had a blast dancing to the music in the shop while we waited for food. I had the peanut butter soup with goat and fufu and it was everything I hoped it would be and more. Just the right amount of spicy and comforting.
We were visiting from Michigan and so glad we found Vieve's!
Omg!!! Please dont be fooled by the stars!!! They must be friends and fam. I wish i took a pic. The fufu taste like box mashed potatoes stuff you get from the store. The pepper stew taste like straight tomato paste and it was 26$!!!! Im not used to African food but i wanted to try. I knew right away i ordered from the wrong spot when there was a paper banner for the title and walking in to see the run down shop with the depressed staff. They must not get much clientele cuz when i came in my orders was already priced and ready for my card to swipe as if they was waiting for just me cuz i called. I asked for a meat pie which was $6. The cashier who spoke like she was on her last breath or just didn’t wanna be at work barely knew how to used the cp and took like 10 mins tryna add it on until i said its okay just gimme the stew.
I realized i was scammed today when i went to ranham african cuisine in beltsville and got jellof and meat(13$) okra soup with goat and fufu(13$) and puff puff(2.5) and fish pie(2.5) for 32$. And the place had a lot of ppl in it. Lol atmosphere says a lot honestly.
I saw a picture of the peanut butter soup on their Google page and I knew it was going to be delicious. So, I ordered it with goat meat. It was as good as I expected!
Came in for plantains and jollof, left with delicious spices beef and goat stew! (plus plantains and jollof) The folks serving were kind and friendly. Portions were large with plenty for a second meal
I had the best experience ever! The food is delicious and customer service experience was superb! I recommend this location 1000% I tried the peanut butter soup with Fufu, Okra Soup with Banku, and Jollof Rica… All Very Delicious !!!!
