Best KPortal Reviews
110% would recommend! This place is absolutely AMAZING. It's never super busy, so you can always hear the conversations you're having. As for the food: it's to die for. Not only is their 'Perfect Burger' the best burger I've ever had, which comes with fries that are topped with bacon powder...
But if you go here you MUST get the 'Devils on Horseback' for an appetizer. It sounds strange but is possibly the best food I've ever had. Warning, however: it's a meat restaurant, so leave your vegetarian friends at home. (Sorry!)
10/10 would recommend to anyone who loves bacon or burgers!
Went for lunch today, sat at a table adjacent to the bar and flat top grill/prep area where the chef was cooking. Great atmosphere & view, loved the decor and the open kitchen space. It was especially fun watching the chef in action!
Service wasn't great: Our first server called for backup when we asked for details on the three lunch sandwiches. Dad's iced tea didn't come with an offer of sugar. I loved the beer sample but by the time I was asked if I wanted a glass, I had talked myself out of it. We waited 25 minutes after ordering for the food to come (and watched it under the warmer for 5 minutes before it arrived). When the server came by to ask if the food was good, the ketchup was long gone and the fries were cold. The bill came 15 minutes after our dishes were cleared- luckily we weren't in a hurry.
Loved the burger (80% beef 20% bacon), the homemade pickles & the bun! The lunch food showed the promise of what the dinner service could be. I saw many expertly cooked eggs passing by accompanied by great-looking blood sausage.
I'd probably try the dinner service at Victory 44, unless someone talked me into going to Travail instead.
I really want to like this place, but today proved that it's just an average restaurant. Our server basically ignored us until she realized that she was going to be our server. Even then, she was pretty scattered. We went for brunch at 10:00 AM on a Sunday. I ordered a latte at the same time as our food and beer. I got the latte a minute before the food, which is too long for a coffee order. There was no sugar brought with the latte, so I had to request that when she came back with our food. The fries accompanying my "perfect burger" were greasy at best, and soggy more often than not. I wouldn't put the burger in my top 15 in the metro. Having visited here more than 5 times over the years, I've never been blown away by the food, and the service is mostly lackluster. Overall I like the concept, but it's really a letdown when the small things are overlooked.
This place is fabulous. I've been here a couple of times and have been pleased each and every time. We did the Valentines day special a couple years back when I was pregnant, and they were very accommodating, making sure nothing I got was raw and would substitute it with something I could have instead. Our most recent visit, I finally decided to give the Perfect Burger a shot and I wasn't disappointed! It truly is perfect. So juicy, so much flavor and the bacon fries are addicting! The atmosphere is fun, the decor is hip and the staff is very friendly. Always a good time.
Positives:
Appetizer was awesome (bacon wrapped/blue cheese stuffed dates)
Waiter was knowledgeable about menu.
Negatives:
Appetizer was on table before beverages.
Ordered the 45 day aged steak. I was not asked how I wanted it done. I caught the waiter and he said they are done to medium rare. I said "perfect". Steak came out almost well done. Ate the middle which was barely pink. Should have sent it back right away. Wish I would have seen one before ordering. It was maybe 1/2 in thick and looked like it was deep fried. Told the waiter about it who took it to the chef but not the manager. Filled out a negative comment card and handed it to the manager who read it in front of me then walked away without saying anything. Was not offered any comps or desert which all I wanted was a "we are very sorry comment". Not a good birthday dinner experience. Will not ever go back there again.
Victory 44 is probably my favorite place to eat. Their desserts are always awesome tasting and pretty. The devils on horseback are obviously one of the best tasting things in the world! I really like the atmosphere and the ever changing menu keeps it fresh and never boring. I go there at least once a week ,because it is the only place I've been to that always satisfies my need for delicious, interesting and pretty food. I don't drink beer any more ,but my friends really enjoy there fancy beer selection.
Back when this was Steamworks, I loved the place. The new owners don't seem to get the concept. They got rid of the local postings, the kids games, the water pitcher, and the fresh baked goods. They have scones from Sam's club that cost twice what it would cost there still in the bag from Sam's. The coffee is still good, but the prices went up. Great if you are a foodie who is there just for the experience, but it is not longer a neighborhood coffee shop.
Knowledgeable staff and great food! I took a date there and everything we had was superb. I don't even like pickles, but the ham and pickle tots were fantastic. I highly recommend them... And the root beer pork shoulder if they still have it!
