Couldn’t tell you what it’s like on a game day or when class is in session, but it’s was a nice chill spot when I was there. Bartenders were friendly and attentive. Food came out quick and was exactly how we ordered. It’s a great place to swing by after work.
And Ohio State staple. A must stop on game day or any other day of the year. Always enjoy my visits. They don't have the biggest menu, but what they offer is great.
Start your pre-gaming at Varsity Club where the food is delicious. Atmosphere and outstanding service a bonus!
My son goes to Ohio State and suggested that we go to the varsity club for lunch. This place was the bomb. My kind ♥️ of place. Great atmosphere from the minute we pulled up. I took my sons photo standing next to the statue of Woody Hayes. When we entered the staff greeted us right away and seated us. Very friendly. The service was outstanding. Food was excellent. If u are ever in columbus you have to check this place out. After exiting, you get a full view of the Ohio State football stadium. See all of you there.
I ate the most delicious grilled cheese sandwich that I have ever eaten on 11-30-2023 at Varsity Club Restaurant and Bar at 278 W. Lane Ave. in the "University District" neighborhood of Columbus.
I had been planning to eat there [for my first time ever] on 11-19-2023 but left after only a few minutes because they had been extremely crowded right then because of an unknown-to-me basketball game several hours later [against Western Michigan University beginning at 4:00 p.m.].
My return visit to Varsity Club Restaurant and Bar had been about ten days later during the early afternoon on 11-30-2023, a "non-game" day, so there had been plenty of room.
I recall my server telling me that their menu is more limited on "game days" [because they have so many more customers on "game days"] and is larger on "non-game days."
My food choice on 11-30-2023 had been a "Three Cheese Grilled Cheese" sandwich [Provolone, Swiss, and Cheddar on sourdough]. That sandwich had been at least half an inch thick and had been extremely delicious and had been quite filling.
The cost for my meal had been less than I had been expecting because the listed price on the menu had included fries that I had declined when my server had asked me if I had wanted fries.
If you are looking for some delicious food served in an energetic "OSU sports" environment, I recommend Varsity Club Restaurant and Bar.
But if you are not interested in sports, I recommend eating there on a "non-game day."
Came in during Country Fest. This Piace has Banger Pizza love it. Glad to find a great place with awesome food, service, atmosphere at a fair price.
Varsity Club Restaurant & Bar is an old-pub favorite located in the heart of the Ohio State University campus. The atmosphere is lively and full of energy, making it the perfect place to watch the Buckeyes play.
The menu offers a variety of classic pub fare, including burgers, sandwiches, wings, and salads. They also have a great selection of beers on tap, including many local brews.
One of the highlights of Varsity Club is the outdoor patio, which offers a great view of campus and is a popular spot on game days. Inside, there are plenty of TVs to catch all the action, and the staff is friendly and attentive.

Noelle was my server. I came on the Michigan v Ohio game, which means it was VERY busy! Noelle found the extra time to make sure we were okay at every turn, she was the absolute best! I never had an empty drink regardless of the amount of people that showed up. Without Noelle, I think my experience would have been very different. I think she deserves more than appreciation! She was fantastic.
