Best KPortal Reviews

Like wow. Everything about this experience was unique and memorable! Our server (Dan) was on top of everything the whole time and didn't bother us too much or seem fake.
The food was fantastic and worth every penny! I got the kobe beef steak and my companion got the fish and chips. My steak was cooked exactly how I wanted it and the mashed potatoes were on point. My companions fish actually had a thick piece of fish in it and wasn't just all breading. They both made the clean plate club! Oh and we got the cheese curds as an appetizer and I could drink the sauce it came with it was so tasty. I will definitely be going back, only this time I am going to dress up!!
We visited Vanders Keep on Valentine's evening and it was fairly busy but we had a reservation and were seated pretty quickly
The furniture is a bit of a mix of different tables and chairs and booths. We had a table but I would recommend a booth if possible, they seem much more comfortable and a bit more private
The service was not awesome but also not bad, maybe a bit over worked and not able to respond quickly, we had to wait almost 10 minutes to order even though the menu was pretty limited for Valentine's day. I think they anticipated a large crowd so they took some things off the menu.
We had salmon, which was very nice but the fish was pretty small and slightly over cooked. Also a salad with chicken added. The chicken was also small and a bit dry. 8 suspect the fish and chicken might have been cooked, frozen and then recooked/finished.
We also had poutine (fries, gravy, cheese and mushrooms). Unfortunately it was mostly undercooked fries, a few cheese chunks and a LOT of what I think was bottled gravy with a few tiny mushroom slices in it. It certainly tasted ok, not bad, but not what I expected from the price and the expectations the restaurant projects.
Dessert was an apple crumble with ice cream, lots of vanilla ice cream and a little apple pie filling and very little crumble. It comes in a huge bowl but the crumble is too small and too hot and the ice cream is too much so you end up with melted ice cream soup with a bit of apple mush underneath.
It's tasty, but not... Right. If you've had a good apple crumble with ice cream, you know how good it can be. This was a kind of half way approximation. Certainly not bad but it could have been so much better.
The interior of the restaurant is interesting, well designed and vaguely fun but not reaching it's potential. It's like they had plans when making it but didn't quite finish. Much like Evermore, it's getting there but not really done. The staff is just dressed in normal black staff outfits like any restaurant, so they feel out of place in what seems to be a themed restaurant, it's odd.
So ultimately I would say Vanders Keep is decent, but not what you're expecting for the price and not reaching their advertised experience. We'll probably go back again in 6 months to a year and see if things have changed.
I hope they add a bit more character to the interior, the staff/service and I hope they improve the food a bit with more fresh cooked to order items and/or higher quality ingredients.
Came here on a date night to enjoy the ambiance and grub. Both did not disappoint! Really cool location, feels like you've stepped into a different world. Then Brisket Goulash was way better than expected. Not sure if they offer a kid friendly menu, but the adult stuff we had was delish! Will definitely be coming back again to try some other items.
Food was really good. Chef did a great job making it look presentable. It was also Delicious.
Dan was our server and was very attentive. He was sharp and funny. Made our experience enjoyable.
And for the record, we are not into mid evil stuff, but it was a fun experience we won’t forget
Why have I not been here before!? This place immediately became my favorite restaurant. The atmosphere is such a unique experience I have seen no where else. Our server, Dan, total boss! We even got a steak that was a little too well done, and Dan took it back to the kitchen for us to get us something more rare. Everything we had was absolutely delicious. I will be returning many, many more times.
The food was solid, and the atmosphere is really cool. Gives off serious Three Broom Sticks / Prancing Pony vibes. I got the fish and chips, and my wife got the 8oz hanger steak. It was all cooked well, and can out fast and hot. Dan, our waiter was attentive and friendly. He did a fantastic job. My only criticism was we asked the host if we could sit at a booth upon being seated, but were told no with zero explanation and very little tact. At the end of the meal, the host sat a couple in a booth that sat empty the entire time. Would have been a 5 star review if not for the host that seated us. Overall, it was a positive experience. We'd go again.
What a classy experience! The wait staff was really friendly! The food was oh my goodness good! We did the dragon wings appetizer and they are huge and delicious! The salmon was the best I’ve ever had! My husband and I have never had venison before and it was melty goodness in your mouth! We also tried the chicken and that was super good as well! The berry Crème brûlée was amazing! As we were leaving I noticed a dehydrator sitting in the bar area and the bar keep informed me that whatever they don’t use by the end of the week the dehydrate it for garnish for drinks for the next week… way cool!
This has got to be one of my new favorite places! The service was so welcoming and friendly, the food was divine and the drinks were creative and unique. The poutine was so yummy! The hanger steak and bone-in pork chops were perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. I would honestly eat a bowl of the garlic mashed potatoes as a bar snack, they are that good. The barkeep is a gem! We loved the New Fashioned, Virgin Blackberry Daiquiri and the Brother Brigham's Mule. And the ambiance! So cool, I've never been somewhere like this. Definitely give it a try. We'll be back soon!
