Truly A Blast from the Past at Van Dorn Street Diner!
Stepping into Van Dorn Street Diner is like taking a delightful journey back to the fabulous 1950s, complete with all the era's charm and a dash of modern hospitality. The staff here isn't just energetic; they're genuinely kind and go out of their way to make every visit special. Their prompt and courteous service beautifully complements the quiet, quaint ambiance, offering all the perks of a classic diner with the luxury feel of a high-end restaurant.
The food? Absolutely delicious! Everything from the well-seasoned steak and eggs to the savory home fries and crisp white toast was cooked to perfection. The sausage and gravy was a standout, rich and flavorful with just the right amount of kick. Even the side sausage was notably zesty, leaving us eager for our next bite.
What's more, despite the upscale feel, the prices are diner-friendly, which means great value without compromising on quality or experience. The food came out quickly too, adding to the overall excellent impression.
We can’t wait to return to Van Dorn Street Diner. It’s a gem that perfectly captures the spirit of the '50s while delivering a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience today. Highly recommended for a taste of nostalgia along with some truly yummy dishes!
This diner is consistent with their food and service. The diner is very clean and Not too crowded. It’s a great place to eat quality food at a reasonable price. I find myself going back time after time with friends and family. Definitely my top breakfasts/ brunch place. I love their French Toast every single time
Awesome place, the decor was reminiscent of vintage and retro, not that I would know. The food was great and reasonably priced. It was pretty busy but luckily we didn’t have to wait long to get a table. We were coming home from a long road trip and this place hit the spot for us!
Menu items listed are mediocre to deceptive at best. This is a clean little diner with so much more potential. Unfortunately, the basic comfort food on the menu is terrible. I have tried many different items on their menu over several months now. The basic food that you would expect from a diner like meatloaf and a tuna melt are disappointingly disgusting. The meatloaf “to go” consisted of generous slabs of mystery meat that could double as door stops and were so full of fillers and bread crumbs that it tasted more like compacted sawdust and nothing like ground beef or mom’s meatloaf. The accompanying mashed potatoes were below average in taste and the mixed vegetables were just as disappointing. Their burgers are pretty bad and fries are often soggy. The gyro was okay. The breakfast burrito is pretty good but there’s no way to see what is in it or to mod the order when trying to put an order online. The tuna melt is just a plain $15 lie (see picture). A scoop of tuna salad and LETTUCE between two slices of bread. A $15 tuna fish sandwich!! How is that a tuna melt?! The service from the front staff is hit or miss with attentiveness and friendliness. The dining room is clean and nicely decorated, but the diner experience ends their. The cooks just dont care about the food that they put out and they obviously dont understand the American history behind diners or how to follow simple basic American recipes. It’s obvious they’ve never seen or tasted authentic diner food nor do they care to. I’ve never seen the place even halfway full and it’s sad because the location alone has great potential.
I wish I would've taken more pics of the food but I was so hungry...lol...I ate it up!???? I had the French toast and it was the best, I would highly recommend it! Staff is so personable and friendly, will definitely return!
The food, service and atmosphere were exceptional! Everything was delicious, but it's the second time I've gone and it gives me intense stomach pain and discomfort. The first time I didn't take it very seriously but it's the second time and I went with my family and we've all been bad since that day, no. We don't know what hygiene they have inside that kitchen or with which hands they handle the food!? but the everyone in my home are currently there's very weak in their stomach, and it has been a week since we had breakfast there and there is no improvement, we do not expect to return for this experience, I would love to go back because it was delicious but we don't know who is behind that kitchen and how they handle the food there ????????
(Severe stomach pains, cramps, bathroom emergencies)
Food was great but the waitress couldn't speak English. I asked her if she understood I wanted onion rings instead of fries twice. Of course she bobs her head and guess what came out on the plate? Then she never came back around after being nice about it. Won't be on the return list.
A nice atmosphere and amazing customer service!
Food average but a bit too expensive for the quality.
Eggs a la Benedict: not balanced flavors. A bit too lemony. In my opinion definitely need to work and perfect the recipe.
Vegetarian Scrambled Eggs, taste was bland. A pinch of salt or a bit more made a difference.
Pancakes were awesome.
I don't mind price for excellent food but price should be based on how good the food parties or sleeps in your mouth.
