We have used Upstate movers twice. When we moved to Greenville 3 months ago, Ed and a helper unloaded my truck and somehow managed to get it all in a 10x10 storage unit. I was impressed! The 2nd time was this past weekend. We finally found a house and Ed and a helper moved the storage unit to the truck and then came to the house and unloaded it. I really appreciated Ed's work ethic. He kept me informed all during the move and charged what he quoted to me. He came highly recommended by the storage place and highly recommended by me. I would absolutely use him again when and if we move. This company is worth every cent paid and then some. They treated my belongings as if they were their own. Highly recommend this moving company. Very professional and direct, which I appreciate.
Very rude and confrontational on the first phone call, was sarcastic when he answered the phone. Extremely unprofessional. Acted as if he was upset I called for a price quote. I asked if he had availability for a weekend, and he said, "maybe, let me ask you a couple of questions first so I can let you know." Then, he explained how if there are stairs it requires more than one person to move (as if I didn't know heavy pieces of furniture require more than one mover). I would not hire if given the chance based off of the phone call alone, but I did not have the chance to hire, because he quite frankly informed me that since it was a local move for a three bedroom apartment I should call Two Men and a Truck, because this company has a six (6) hour minimum move. He literally recommended another company!
So, from what I gathered from our conversation is, this company does not want your business if you're looking to pay less that $762.00 + gas and Two Men and a Truck are more than happy to do 2-3 hour moves!
Ed is a very rude and irresponsible person. He showed up to my home without any employee's to help. Stating he couldn't get anyone to come work on that day. He then said it was my fault and that I had too much stuff to get into my trailer. I told him I had another trailer for overflow. He didn't want to take responsibility for leaving me in a huge and bad situation. I can't help but wonder why he can't get help to show up....
Do yourself a favor and stay away from this company. He will leave you hanging.
DID NOT SHOW - Movers were supposed to show up at 2 pm on a Saturday. At 1:45 I get a text from them saying they won't be able to make 2 pm. I call and text asking when they're going to be able to make it, and they reply back 2 hrs later that they aren't coming at all. Do not use this company unless you want the potential to be stranded. You are better off using craigslist and offering cash to the first person than relying on this company.
WARNING - Recently moved to Greenville and looked online for a "professional" moving company (with license, bonding, insurance). Got quote from Ed for $95 per hour (3 person team). We got another quote from a private person for less but wanted to go with a "reputable" company that would stand behind the work and give us assurance there will be no issues and was reliable. In the beginning Ed was very challenging and asking all types of questions (see other similar Google reviews) about who loaded the truck. I should have seen this as a flag that he didn't want to deal with unloading a truck that he didn't originally load. (Be careful if you have a pre-loaded truck that Ed or his team did not load - see MAIN ISSUE below!!!)
Issue #1: Ed and his team showed up at 9:30am (8am was supposed to be the starting time - verified by text). Ed did say that he thought it was 9:30am. No call the night before, no email reminders. Wanted an early start at 8am to get our first trailer cleared out (only partially full so really only needed an hour or so to get this finished before 2nd trailer arrived at 10am). Ed and his team did scramble at the last minute and get this done quickly when they saw the 2nd trailer arrive.
Issue #2: Around 10:30am Ed left for an hour "have to go to another job site, these 2 are ok to work without me for a while". When he was gone his workers asked "are you paying us or is Ed paying us?" Obviously concerning that perhaps these are not regular workers that work for Ed. (Ed told me before hand that "if they ask for money do not pay them"). Sketchy operation.
Issue #3: Ed said he does other work also outside of moving and this is not his only job (concerning as I thought this was a professional moving company only)
Issue #4: MAIN ISSUE: - I had to leave the home for an hour. My wife and kids were at the home while Ed and his workers began unloading the 2nd trailer. My wife called me about 30 minutes after they started unloading the 2nd trailer saying "Ed just quit and walked off the job". I called Ed to find out what happened but he wouldn't answer his phone. Finally he texted back saying "truck is not professionally loaded someone will get hurt" and that "I lied when you told me 2 people loaded these trailers". (I hired 2 professional men to load this trailer irrespective of the claim Ed has made). I told Ed he was clearly unprofessional by walking off the job and leaving me and my family stranded and that I was going to file a claim on his insurance and bond - his comment to me was "good luck with that, you should have read the contract". (I don't even know if he has insurance, bond, license but we will find out when I file a claim this week.)
Fortunately our neighbor had a man moving in furniture from a local retailer. I asked the man if he could move the rest of the furniture from our trailer. He said sure. He went home and got his WIFE and the 2 of them unloaded it themselves until 9:30pm and are coming back Sunday to finish. Furthermore, Ed's team couldn't get 2 pieces of exercise equipment into a downstairs basement and this husband/wife team I hired at the last minute ended up getting both of them into the basement without a problem even after I told them I didn't personally think that it could get done since Ed's "professional" team couldn't do it. Thankful for these people who I should have hired in the beginning.
CAUTION - If you plan on hiring Ed, then you should be prepared for him and his team to "walk off" the job if they don't like something. Advise anyone to get copy of his business license, valid insurance and bond and make sure that you write something in the contract to protect you if Ed walks off the job. Also Ed charged me for 4 hours of work (I gave him my credit card to secure a $225 deposit and he charged $380 without my approval).
????????Very unprofessional and rude. No wonder this company has a 1 star rating. They don't even deserve that. Just called last minute inquiring about availability in their schedule for a local move tomorrow. The man asked me why I'm just now calling. I asked him why that matters, either you have availability or you don't. Guess he doesn't need business. ✌????Their loss not mine. Called up another company who happily accepted the job no questions asked. Don't waste your time or money with someone who speaks to a POTENTIAL customer that way. Google reviews I have read thus far seem more than accurate. Just read his responses on previous Google reviews and that alone should be enough to deter you from doing business with him.
I called Upstate Movers for a move from Greenville SC to NC. I agreed to Mike's ballpark estimate and we set a time for him to view my space the following day to confirm the estimate. I gave him my address and he stated he was familiar with my apartment community. He said he had been there before stating he remembered it had narrow staircases.
The next day, a half hour before my appointment, he texted to say he needed the leasing office info at my new home. I let him know it was not an apartment but a townhouse with no leasing office. A few minutes later, I got a call from an unknown caller. It was Mike leaving me a voicemail saying " Unfortunately, I just realized that you're in the city limits of Greenville. We don't do any business in the city limits of Greenville because of the fees that they charge...". I'm glad this appointment did not work out.
This company has terrible customer service. I called to be quoted for 2 rooms the guy told me he couldn't give me a truck but he could send me guys and charge me labor of a 3 hr minimum. He told me that I wouldn't find under that in this industry. I told him the company I spoke to before him had a 2 hr minimum and he laughs and says go with them then. Personality really matters. This company has no professionalism and very rude.
