I recently dined at Union Underground in Manchester, VT. The overall service was what I would consider mediocre, or perhaps standard for Vermont. The menu offers a variety of dishes, with the tomato bisque soup and spinach dip standing out as particularly tasty. The burger was good, though it lacked a wow factor. The major downside was the drinks, which seemed to have minimal alcohol content and were priced steeply at $18. If you’re visiting, I’d recommend sticking to the appetizers, as they seemed more impressive than the entrees.
MARY!!! Loved this place! Can't go wrong for with a couple appetizers and a drink for lunch and Mary's suggestion of wings and spinach dip was on the spot! Also the only place we found peach crown. Great with ginger ale, and their wings and spinach dip! So good we went back the next day as a midday snack before hiking some more. Awesome people, great pub food! Laid-back environment, one of a kind diamond in the rough. More like a hidden treasure as it was hard to find anything we disliked in Manchester. Thanks for the experience and definitely coming back.
This is a place I stumbled on when I was walking around Manchester. My overall opinion is that it’s got great atmosphere with outdoor seating available, but what you really want to do is sit in the basement because it’s an old bank vault, complete with the old door.
It was nice and cool inside and I enjoyed a cold glass of water, an even colder glass of Guinness, and some “poutine”.
Now, I was originally going to get the Pork Dijonnaise that was on special but they ran out of fingerling potatoes. The bartender was kind and did offer me a replacement but I got the “poutine” instead. It was a good lunch, but instead of cheese curds there was some sort of melted cheese.
Overall I would definitely come back. It’s just a bit pricey - you’re not going to be spending less than $25 most likely.
I am a frequent patron of Union Underground. It is the most professional, well run organized restaurant Ive ever been to. Its not just one person, it is the entire staff. Kudos to management, without dedicated, professional management this place would not be this successful!. It is a blessing that this restaurant is here in Manchester. Thank you!
We stopped by on the late side unaware of Vermont's police state covid restrictions. The Underground Restaurant went out of their way but within the rules to accommodate us.The waitress was friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and promptly served. Their hamburger tasted really good and their house made pub cheese is very good. Prices are moderate. We would definitely go back.
This place is a shining example of food worth your money. The cheese plate had REALLY high quality cheeses, the Mediterranean pasta was unbelievable, and the steak sandwich was tender with a good crunch on the bread, but a soft inside. Fries were decent, but the rest of the food just blew us away. We also tried the mulled cider which is some of the best cider i have ever had. We had anniversary dinner at a different place near our hometown and it was awful. This place restored that for us and is an excellent beginning stop on our trip thru the beautiful North East. Thank you for giving us a wonderful anniversary dinner!
called an hour in advance asking about food allergies. my daughter has a soy allergy and it’s super difficult to find somewhere to eat, especially while on vacation. while on the phone, i talked to a woman who gave me information on which meals my daughter would be able to eat. she even said that we could ask the chef more questions when we got there. i thanked her and we arrived at the restaurant about an hour later. When we got to the hostess stand we were told that they had absolutely no room for my family and i without a reservation. we are a family of 6, but there were only about 3 tables taken up in the restaurant. by her voice i could tell that she was the same woman i had spoken to on the phone. i said that i had called ahead about the allergy and was not told a reservation was required or even recommended. to that she had no response and just turned my family and i away without even an apology. i mean wouldn’t it have been common sense to tell us that we needed a reservation while i was on the phone? we left and we are very disappointed in how this all played out. will not be coming back.
Fantastic atmosphere, staff was very polite and attentive. Burger was cooked perfectly, although the fries tasted slightly fishy as if they were fried in the same oil as the fish, but otherwise everything was delicious! The marinara sauce was a little smokey which I was not a fan of but can see how others may like it. Will definitely try it again!
