Hidden gem! Talk about authentic home cooked Jamaican food. This is it! The restaurant has a modern yet traditional feel. I ordered a large curry chicken and a large oxtail (the large is enough to serve for lunch and dinner) both were exceptional. You could taste that it was well seasoned, cooked with passion. Uncle Phil's is IT. This restaurant has the potential to be the best Jamaican restaurant South Florida has to offer. Can't wait to go again.
Our late father owned a top-notch West Indian Jerk Chicken restaurant in NYC, so we decided to eat Jamaican food the entire week here. Uncle Phil's was the fourth different restaurant we patronized, and I (we) attest that Uncle Phil's is the best! First, the owners are very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere and vibe of the reggae music puts one at ease. Cleanliness is top-notch. We ordered Oxtail, Brown Stew Chicken, fish, rice and peas and plantains. Everything was cooked to perfection! While we waited for our entrees, we were also served Venezuelan Tequenos which were delicious. Friendly people. Delicious food. Excellent service. I and my family highly recommend Uncle Phil's as it is the only one we have consciously revisited. Just fix your GPS to 3856 N. University Drive in Sunrise and arrive prior to 5:00 PM (modified hours due to COVID).
Uncle Phils was a diamond in the rough omg the place was nice , homely and the owner was professional beyond measure now i eat at many island restaurants and this is by far the very best place for oxtails. It was seasoned by jesus, i have never in my waking life tasted oxtails so succulent. Even the angels in heaven rejoiced at every bite. Lord have mercy. The potato salad was on point i wanted more. I am heading there this evening to make sure i buy a plate. This was too good to be true. It's like an orgasm in a box.
The food was excellent, plentiful, and very reasonably priced. The owner asked for our names so he could greet us by name which, I think, demonstrates how highly he regards providing an excellent and friendly experience. The chef came out and greeted us, too! She was warm and friendly and I can tell she cooks with love.
I ate brown stew chicken with white rice, fried plantains, a salad, and an extra side of potato salad and it all somehow tasted like I was eating my mom's cooking. It tasted like dinners with my family before I moved away from years ago. I'll be going back again to try the fried chicken because it looked JUST like my mom makes.
The food here was mediocre at best. Many of the items, including all the Venezuelan options were not available. The tangy chicken is fried chicken with a ketchup sauce. Nice looking place but with almost a dozen Jamaican restaurants in the area, there's nothing that stood out about Uncle Phil's. If serving traditional Jamaican dishes at least get them right.
So I’ve been searching for a really good place to have curry chicken. (trust me I’ve tried them all) when I went to tires plus I struck up a conversation with a Jamaican fellow and I asked “hey where is the best curry chicken? “He quickly replied “Oh you got to go to uncle Phil”. The first time I went there I was greeted with a friendly smile. But I was blown away by how good the food was. In short the food there is made WITH LOVE. My family owns ITALIAN restaurants in Broward and Palm Beach and I can tell when food is made with love.
I ordered again yesterday for my two coWORKERS and they too were blown away on how fresh the rice and peas was...How tender the chicken was and how tasty the coleslaw vegetables were. The plantains... everything about this place is amazing and they deserve to be patronized and to become a successful mom and pop shop in our area
this was my first time here & i have been to PLENTY of Jamaican restaurants . the customer service here is top notch — very friendly staff & i was pleased to meet the cook herself . i am so glad to learn this place is right by my job because i’ve found myself a new lunch spot ! the food is amazing as well . i ordered the curry goat & curry chicken . i also appreciate their rewards program & will be spreading the word !
My first time visiting Uncle Phil Jamaican Restaurant, warm and welcoming atmosphere. Customer service was on point A+, the food was amazing no complaints. I would recommend anyone looking to get a nice meal worth the money. Keep up the good job.
