I have lived in the neighborhood for twenty years. I use to come here often. This place use to be soooooo delicious! But now the quality and consistency is horrible!!! I would say for the past ten years it’s been this way! I try them once a year to see if there is some change. But nope!!!!! They think they’re slick they give you old dry chicken with a few new pieces. Plantains aren’t ripe. Bread was hardish. The chicken person back there knows what he’s doing. Seems like they know the regulars and give them the best pieces. I wish a more consistent jerk place would take their spot. Yesterday was my last time. I am so disappointed and disgusted with you guys! Serve our community with respect and consistency!
The jerk chicken at Uncle Joe's is so freaking good, I enjoyed every bite of that, just enough spicy tender jerk chicken. The meal came with 2 sides, I chose cabbage and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was tasty, and I don't even like mac and cheese. The cabbage was the least tasty of the meal. It was too crunchy. The wait time was extremely slow it took over a half hour, which, if they would have told me that it takes a half hour to cook mac and cheese, I would have omitted the side dishes. What they should have done was use that time to finish cooking the cabbage. The oxtails were also delicious and tender.
Mannnnnnnnnnn, had I known this food was going to be THAT good, I would have ordered more! ????????????????! The Jerk Catfish & the Curry Goat was very flavorful. I give those 5/5 but for the sides I give them 4/5, either way it was worth every dollar. I’ll be back in a couple weeks fore sure ☺️
We opted for this place because Jamaican gates was closed ( they are unmatched btw ). The woman at the register was very nice, very professional. Her service was the highlight of the entire experience here. 1. We got jerk chicken and it was undercooked! 2. The cabbage had greens in it and they were UNDERCOOKED. The cabbage wasn’t good and they could’ve also cooked that a little longer. We also got a side of Rasta pasta and it was very very DRY. All this under cooked food that we waited over an hour for. Save your time and save your money and just go to Jamaican gates on 51st.
First time and last time!!!! I wanted a jerk salad so my fiancée decided to try this place out, took 45 minutes to make 2 salads, we get our food and I’m 3 bites into eating my salad and my fiancée shows me his salad and it’s a live bug in it! I don’t know what type of a bug it was but it looked disgusting! I loss my appetite after that, we took ALL the food back and was offered a refund! Cashiers response was “I never seen anything like this”.. I find that hard to believe, and they definitely need a visit from the health department! If no stars was a option, they would definitely get a 0!
I traveled 1hr & 25minutes from new Lenox to purchase what I know to be the best Jerk Chicken and Sauce ever. But instead I received the driest & over cook chicken I've ever tasted, and a total disappointment as far as the food. The young lady at the front counter was definitely the best person for the job. Her personality was amazingly awesome, warm and inviting. I am thankful that the sauce hasn't changed and made sure to purchase 5 bottles of it.
I visited this restaurant the night before Thanksgiving. I ordered 2 half jerk chicken dinners with rice and peas and Cabbage.
I have never tasted jerk chicken as bland and flavorless as this was. It was like they forgot to season the chicken. The Cabbage was bland as well. The rice and peas were watery and also lacked flavor.
It was so flavorless that I couldn't eat it. I threw away the majority of the food.
This was my first time ordering from this establishment. It is very close to home, so I was hoping it would be good. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I don't think I will be giving them a second chance, seeing as there are several jerk chicken restaurants in the area to choose from.
Oh well...
Unfortunately, the food was not how it used to be. My husband and I leave this carry out restaurant alone for several months and then try it again, praying it’ll taste like the past. The jerk chicken did not taste like jerk seasoned chicken. The cabbage did not have a good flavor. One plantain included was hard and tasteless. The other was acceptable. ( only 1 piece in each dinner- over $50 spent! SMH) The fish was bland. The rice and peas taste instant and the gravy was tasteless. The sweet potatoes/ candied yams weren’t sliced small enough for the cinnamon sugar syrup to coat. My husband said the Mac & cheese was bland, as well. Come on Joes -for over $50 for bland food! Unacceptable! Sorry, not worth it for poor quality. Taste test & reevaluate quality, please.
