Indian food is one of my favorites, even went to India just to eat. We are lucky to live near Little India. Decided to try Udupi, it's been a while since I've had Dosa. Wasn't in the mood for a potato one, and the waiter suggested the paneer one. Great suggestion and happy I listened to him.
We also ordered the thali and it was a lot of food.
Clean place, good service and delicious food.
I recently visited Udupi restaurant in Artesia and wanted to share my experience. Overall, I would rate it 3 stars.
Firstly, I must commend the restaurant for their delicious Chole bhature. The combination of spicy chickpea curry and fluffy bhature bread was simply mouth-watering. The flavors were authentic and reminded me of the street-side stalls in India. The portion size was generous, and it was definitely the highlight of my meal.
On the other hand, I found the average/dry paper dosa to be disappointing. The dosa lacked the crispy texture that I expected, and it seemed like it had been sitting out for too long. The flavor was also quite bland. I believe they could significantly improve this dish by making it fresher and more flavorful.
When it came to the kids dosa, it was decent but nothing extraordinary. The dosa itself was thin and crispy, appealing to children who prefer a lighter taste. However, I was expecting it to be served with some sort of accompaniment or filling to make it more exciting for the kids. It felt a bit plain and lacking in that aspect.
In terms of service, the staff was friendly and attentive. They took our orders promptly and were helpful in explaining the menu. The ambiance of the restaurant was clean and comfortable, making it a pleasant place to dine.
Overall, my experience at Udupi restaurant in Artesia was a mix of positives and negatives. While their Chole bhature was outstanding, the average/dry paper dosa and kids dosa did not live up to my expectations. I would recommend this place if you're specifically looking for great Chole bhature, but for other South Indian dishes, there might be better options available in the area.
5/5/24: Had the spicy chili cheese dosa. Very good novelty. The accompanying coconut chutney and sambar were excellent.
Its a vegetarian restaurant.I tried different dosas here. Cheese dosa is good. Chutney is a little spicy for kids. They serve only white chutney. Rava dosa wasn't great. Good option if you are traveling from another city and craving South Indian. But not a to go place forever.
Lately I've been a bit obsessed. I could eat the dosa and sambar all day everyday forever. I went with two friends and we ordered 6 dishes. I asked the waiter if that was too much and he just kept saying "you're ordering six dishes". Well spoiler alert, it was a hilariously massive amount of food and I had leftovers for a week. The chana bhatura is as large as your head and it's MANDATORY. Felt like I was eating a buttery flakey cloud. It's the only restaurant I go to in little India bc it's so good ????
5 star food! If nothing else, this authentic South Indian restaurant knows their dishes. From the idli sombar to the masala dosa each bite is full of mouthwatering spice and
satisfying ingredients.
Had a very bad experience, I ordered a paneer dosa. I can say it’s the worst dosa I had ate till date. Zero presentation Zero taste. Also I can say it’s too expensive.
The Butter Masala Dosa is my go to here. It features nice Ghee flavor with the curry potatoes. The butter makes the dosa extra crispy. The Chai is average.
