An unexpected totally-enjoyable dining experience. Going for brunch, we enjoyed the biscuits and the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. Loved the chicken and waffles, the salmon and eggs, and the Smashed Hamburger. The ginger turmeric tonic was refreshing, then the magic lemonade was fantasmic. Parking can be hectic, but The Commons can make any walk less cumbersome. Wait staff knows the menu well; Jeanne was attentive and gave us great service! We're going to work a return visit into this trip.
Has a reservation for 9:30 AM on a Saturday for 2 guests. Restaurant was pretty empty upon arrival - seated immediately and paid/left within 40 minutes.
Service was friendly and fast - food came out quickly.
Spicy Bloody Mary (Okay)
Fried Green Tomatoes (Delicious)
Country Chicken & Waffles (Delicious)
Mac & Cheese Ashville Hot Chicken & Waffles (Good)
Would recommend for a cute, casual meal. Nice surrounding shopping area & atmosphere.
Was able to make reservations for Easter Sunday, very grateful for that. Seated promptly on arrival. Waiter was attentive and checked in throughout meal. Home brewed ginger beer was good according to husband. I had peach and pineapples sangria. Very yummy. Started with pimento dip and chips. Delicious. I had smoked salmon, grit cake and eggs. Very good. Salmon only lightly cooked. I'm okay with that, if you're not a sushi person, probably too raw for you. My husband got the fried chicken and bisquits. Very yummy. Left full and happy.
Enjoyed brunch here last weekend on their outdoor patio. Lots of seating inside and outside. Food was really good, and drinks were excellent. Prices are bit high for the area, but nice for a special occasion meal for sure.
I stopped in this cute restaurant for Easter brunch and was very pleasantly surprised! While the current star rating is 4.5, I would certainly expect it to be higher based on the friendliness of the staff, attentiveness of service and speed of my mixed drink, and wonderful flavors of the meal I chose!
I got the Tupelo's Shrimp & Grits (gluten free) - what an amazing explosion of taste! The goat cheese grits melded with the Gulf shrimp and chorizo, pepperonata, and Creole sauce was such a wonderful experience - hats off to the chef! The order did take a bit to come out, But Easter was definitely a busy afternoon, so it was not unexpected.
I also ordered a Blueberry Lavender Mimosa, made with blueberry puree and lavender lemonade, which was served immediately and so yummy! And it lasted through my meal as well as after - not a small serving even though I ordered the regular size! I'm a bit of a lightweight these days, and the regular was more than enough for me.
The atmosphere is nice and family friendly - very crisp and clean, perhaps a bit chic with old window panes dividing the bar from the main seating area. They also have a neat array of belts and spools criscrossing the ceiling throughout, turning what look like antique fan parts/blades - very unique!
The restaurant also offers many payment options, including online via a QR code when you receive your bill, and they accept Apple and Google pay, Venmo, as well as credit cards. This option also allows guests to split the check as necessary. No waiting on multiple server trips, so fast checkout for those inclined. Note that this option does add a $0.25 contactless fee, likely charged by the Up & Go service provider they use.
Restrooms had a beachy vibe and were clean despite the rush.
The area around the restaurant has many cute local and chain stores, perfect to walk off a great meal afterward!
Overall, So very happy with this experience and really enjoyed my time at this restaurant. Would highly recommend and hope to come back again soon!
Alright, let's start with the good. Atmosphere and service was excellent. Our hostess and server were super nice. Had a great experience service-wise.
Now, the bad. Let me preface this with me being a fried chicken connoisseur. It is my favorite food and I've had it in 49 states. I was excited to try this place. First red flag for me is, I ordered the bone-in dark but I couldn't add extra pieces of chicken. It comes with a 3 piece, but I wanted a few extra. My wife ordered the Asheville hot fried chicken with the mac and cheese waffles. Kids had chicken tenders kids meal. As my wife takes her first bite, she asked me to try it because she couldn't taste any flavor. I tried and I couldn't either. I tried my bone in dark chicken and same thing. Chicken was way under seasoned and very bland. Skin was chewy, not crunchy. The kids did not like their chicken tenders and ended up eating the fries.
I was a bit disappointed being a fried chicken fan.
Absolutely love the Shrimp and Grits, then there's the various versions of their amazing Chicken and Waffles. Great beer selection in a warm upscale environment. And the staff is very friendly, attentive and accommodating.
I love the atmosphere. It's spacious and the booths are comfortable. My Southern Hospitality Mimosa was very good. Food was great. Service was awesome. Alma was our server who was sweet and attentive.
