Got my head snapped of for calling it a cafe. Lady was not amused by my comment. Think she thought it was more upmarket than a cafe . So beware don't call it a cafe. Food was ok lol
Well what can I say? Well worth a visit if only for the entertainment value ????. The lady that was serving was quite rude and very sharp with her conversation. I think she could do with a few lessons in customer service. She made us feel uncomfortable by walking to and fro to see if we had finished. We could also overhear her talking to a member of staff. She was saying that once they've finished they should leave and not sit around in the sunshine. Despite all it's faults I have to say the chocolate cake was delicious. I will be going back taking friends so that they too can have the experience.
Brilliant quaint place with excellent service. Spoil for choice for cakes which were very reasonably priced and the female owner was very friendly making the time to talk to us while we were there. Three of us went on motorbikes and plenty of room for us and our bike kit. I'll definitely be back again!
Great value but very disappointed by the lady who appeared to be the proprietor. Poor service and very unhappy for my bicycle to be left by the door in view- was informed just use bike racks which were hidden by a wall. Was told this was a health and safety issue however was in no way a risk to access. Was even told couldn't sit at table by the door close to bicycle. Lady's manner on arrival of what appeared to be regulars changed dramatically too. Reasonable prices but left feeling very disappointed compared to other cafes in area.
Visited the cafe on a couple of occasions with my husband and our dog. Lovely little place, with outside tables and water for visiting pooches. Wide variety of cakes and scones, all appear home baked. The only downside of this little place is the rudeness of the proprietor. Her manner towards customers is abrupt and not very welcoming, unless you are one of her regulars.... the lady is very shortsighted as people will not stand for it and she will lose custom if she doesn’t tone it down. I went in today to ask for the key to the ladies loo. She looked down her nose at me and asked “ are you a customer ?” .... I smiled sweetly and said “ yes of course” .... I appreciate that she should ask the question, but there are ways to speak to people and ways not to ????
Coffee was good, hot chocolate was below average. The lady that served us was condescending and rude. Feel like it is a 'local's cafe' and that any outsiders will be treated differently, even having a conversation with other customers she knew while I was awkwardly stood in front of her.
Passing through Torksey decided to take my best friends mother for a coffee etc, sadly she is in a bad way as her daughter is in intensive care after a serious accident, on arrival to the tea rooms I walked in with the bubbly attitude I always have in life, only to be rudely spoken to, the lady was extremely rude to my friends mother who is 78 years old, Pretty disgraceful really however we decided to sit outside.
Clearly you can’t ask for a simple “coffee” you need to know your coffees ie, latte Americano etc, I think due to the bad attitude we declined to eat any cake why would you eat anything from a an aggressive run tea rooms. Only took the coffee as it was done in-front of us!.
Really unsure if it is a woman in great honesty. The place being empty on arrival should give anybody warning signals.
What can I say!!! I waited 50 minutes for this little cafe to open, killed time with a walk along the canal, watched a few boats going through the lock, before it opened.
So I walked up to the front door and looked in to see if I could see any one when I was approached by a woman in black and silver, “can I help you” she asked,
“sorry” I said “do you work here?”
“No ,I own it” she said sternly.
“Sorry I said I didn’t realise, is it to early to ask for a bacon roll please?”
With this she looked furious and stormed inside saying “good bye”
“What have I done wrong?” I asked
“Are you being filmed?” She asked
“Filmed! Why would you ask me that? I asked
“Because that’s what people do to see my reaction because I don’t cook food we’re a coffee and cake cafe” she stated.
“I’m sorry I said but I’m not being filmed I’ve been waiting 50 minutes for you to open, and I don’t like your attitude.”
“Well you’d best go somewhere else then” she said
“I will and I won’t be coming back either” I said and walked away, just shell shocked by the reception I’d received.
