Best KPortal Reviews
The Top of the Ponch is begging to become a 5 star restaurant with one of the best views of any restaurant in Detroit.
Its location is great for an event downtown, and access is easy on and off 10 (The Lodge freeway).
The service is typical #DetroitFriendly, but it is very lightly staffed. When I went for Sunday brunch, the only choice was a very minimal selection of screwed eggs, potatoes, oatmeal, and a light pastry selection. The favorable news was it was only $14, so it was priced right.
It is nicely preserved in a 90s-style corporate mod tier decor, but it feels a little deserted (no place settings or condiments on the table.
If you're looking to meet someone privately and the food is not the purpose of your meeting, this is a special location.
I do give them credit for keeping it open after the pandemic, and as life perks back up downtown, keep your eye on the Top of the Ponch. It has great potential!
I stayed at Fort Pontchartrain for 5 days with my grandkids, the hotel was very nice the front desk and dining staff were very friendly and nice.
Downside was my key to the room constantly needing to be reset, I was charged for a free dinner voucher, and my BOA card was almost restricted due to multiple charges being made on my card, I had to acknowledge the charge to keep my card active, the billing personnel was horrible, never returned my call, placed me on hold for 20 minutes with an explanation of she cut her finger in the dining room area while checking on an over charge, she coughed and gagged during the entire call, and said ummm… after every word, even though she refunded the voucher charge and the unauthorized charge was dropped off, I decided to forget the rest of my complaint and decided to NEVER stay there again. I visit home and do a 5-6 day stay every year, was planning to stay there during the NFL Draft but that’s not happening now after my engagement with billing. My stay exceeded $1300 and I expected more than keys not working daily, unauthorized transactions, closed dining room, $40 a day valet where quarters were taken from the car, and unprofessional billing management. I could have made a personal call to a friend but I didn’t. Definitely not $1300 service.
Came here for Valentines Day with big expectations considering they just underwent a revamp and remodel. Left feeling extremely disappointed. The ambience/vibe was almost awkward. There was no music playing, so you could hear every tables conversation. The linen of the booth is dirty and stained and had missing buttons on the booths linens. Quality of food was extremely underwhelming - filets
were cold and unseasoned. The carrots were so cold they tasted like they just came out of the fridge. We were never asked how we wanted our steaks prepared and also weren’t told there were whole anchovies on the Caesar salad. Server never even came back to ask how our meals were. Our drinks (Old Fashioned & French 75) were so awful we couldn’t even drink them. They were warm and SO strong to the point they were not pleasant to drink. Our server lacked personality and the whole service was just uncomfortable. Took 30 minutes from the time our bill was brought out to the time we signed the check. Very disappointing considering the standard that neighboring restaurants in Detroit have set.
Great views and excellent service. Food was great during Detroit Restaurant Week and they had an extensive wine list.
Just got back from here. Had an amazing dining experience! Great view, food was amazing (girlfriend said she'll never be able to eat anything else ever again!). Paul was our server and was very attentive and very fun! We were celebrating an anniversary and we were treated like we we're regulars. Over all great! We will be back for other occasions for sure and we both hope to have Paul waiting on us again.
The place is beautiful but we were seated in a table that obscured the view because of the massive chairs. We were not greeted until we were sitting for 20 minutes. The restaurant wasn't very busy for a Friday night dinner service. We asked the server if they carried Private Stock and he had no idea what we're were even talking about. I pointed out the drink I was ordering and an ingredient was Private Stock. A server should know the specials. We, finally get our drinks (40 minutes after being seated) only to have my drink spilled in my lap by the server. We clean up and try to salvage the rest of this dinner. The food was mediocre, at best. A fine dining restaurant that offers only French fries with a strip steak is not fine dining.
Great view. Lack of everything special.
Went here to celebrate my wife's new job and expected outstanding service and food quality.
The hostess put us at a table near the kitchen (we went during the week day) and the restaurant was not busy enough for us to be placed there. We heard swearing and clanking of dished.
Good food presentation, same taste through all the dishes. There was no balance of dynamic flavors. It looked great, and we definitely couldn't make it at home. But I was constantly searching for something more...
Service was OK... server did not pair us with the right wine. In fact they were "out" of the two bottles we had wanted... sad. The wine actually did not compliment our meals.. leaving us to drink it in between courses and not together..
All in all we expected something great. With all the hype and talk. We were left disappointed and let down. Next time we decide to spend $250 on a dinner, we will not be dining there.
:(
From valet to the front desk, they were horrible! I booked a room here to prepare for my wedding the next day. I had a ton of bags the valet watched me unload it all with no help offered. We had to fine someone to receive a cart to move everything, we had to push the cart our self, we were given the wrong room and it couldn't be changed due to being "booked", to top it off the room was half clean when we returner after having to ask for it to be cleaned. The food was disgusting and the restaurant smelled funny. This was a complete waste of money.
