Fantastic!!! It was SO delicious!!! The food was definitely fast food but it was fresh fast food cooked right in front of us!!! The staff was very friendly and helpful! We had a wonderful experience! The view was beautiful even in the cold rain ????
Your average hot dog/burger stand and nothing tastes bad. The people working/cooking are very nice. The food was delicious! The view is what makes this place what it is.
If you like greasy burgers and greasy fries, this is your place. But the food is not the main attraction here - it’s the view. Only breakfast and lunch are served, stand in line to order, eat in or out. The burgers are thin so order a double cheeseburger for the maximum atherosclerotic effect. They do have a menu item called the ER burger.
Was in Birmingham yesterday. Driving along oxmoor valley. Passed this place and turned around to go back. Amazing view. They are known for their burgers and hot dogs. I had their burger with special sauce and jalapeño pimento cheese. It was awesome. Also had their fries. I ordered mine crispy. They came out hot and crispy. Great customer service great views. It was like I was having a burger at my Neighbor’s house. I will definitely go back.
Great little place out of the city. Friendly staff, great food, beautiful view. So glad we found it.
When there is a line out the door, to the road, you know the food is going to be good!!
How have I lived in Birmingham for 2 years and not been here? This is my kind a hole in the wall greasy spoon, place that I love.
Had just finished a yard project with a friend in the area. He suggested we go grab some lunch at TIp Top grill. We pulled up and there was crowd out the door, but it was moving rapidly.
They offer typical breakfast items but we were there for the burgers and dogs! Once inside this tiny restaurant, I was greeted by a young man working the grill. He took each order individually and then got to work. Every burger and dog was made to order right there in about a 100 sq ft space. In 2-3 minutes your order was slide to the cashier next to him and you were out the door. Quick and efficient!!
Now I ordered the RoadHouse burger. 1/4 patty with cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce, pickles and fried onions on a toasted bun. Man was it good! Fresh cooked, still steaming and juice running into the bun. Fries were spicy and crisp.
But what made this a great experience was the view from the picnic table over the bluff! BEAUTIFUL!!
If you love greasy spoons and a great view! Give this place a try! You won’t be disappointed!!
The views from this place are one of the best in the Birmingham area. I honestly haven't made it by during the times they're open for food (the hours are more geared for lunch), but this is a great place for unforgettable pictures.
Road tripped up to Birmingham to try this place out. A former gas station converted into a restaurant, the concept is really cool! Although seating (and space in general) is very limited indoors, there are plenty of places to sit outside and enjoy the lovely views.
Tip Top serves breakfast and lunch and carry out is an option. Service was fast and very friendly; she told us about nearby Lovers' Leap and hooked us up with some delicious ice cream down the road (Bluff Park Ice Cream Shoppe, by the way!)
Food wasn't really exceptional, but it was good American fare: burgers, hot dogs, a couple of sandwiches, and chicken fingers. The chicken fingers were the weakest link; no need to get those. The "ER burger," with bacon and pimento cheese, was good, with a bit of a kick. Fries seemed double fried and were quite tasty. The best item was the hot dog - definitely get that all beef goodness!
Give them a try if you're in the area! Take a break and soak in the views. I'm told it's at the highest point in Birmingham, so you're sure to see something cool!
