This place is great. It's really clean and organized. I love that they have rules against language and they have a dress code..no sagging pants, no revealing clothing..it got busy around 7:00. They have pizza. I didn't eat any but it looked ok. It's $15 per person for 2 hours which includes the amazing bowling shoes you have to wear..????. We had a good time..and I suck at bowling.
If you’re looking for a welcoming friendly environment this is not the place to bowl. The young, tall, white male with brown hair we interacted with was not welcoming at all. Even had the audacity to ask me if I had a problem when I was being rung out. Poor customer service all around which is so surprising for a place that barely had any business.
Very disappointed today, brought three of my residents in to bowl, two in wheelchairs, and no way for them to bowl. Was told by staff that there was no way to get them down to bowling area, and they didn't want the floors scuffed by the wheelchairs. Wow! Definitely lost us we will never come back here.
It’s truly sad to see how little the owners care about their business, if they did, why wouldn’t they be willing to hear the community out?
We have attempted to go bowling here twice, both times closed even tho website had hours posted as open bowling. Third try we were finally able to go, however we were super disappointed. First was the very loud signs on the door. Also the whole atmosphere was…just not fun. It was “cosmic” bowling but the lamest cosmic bowling I have ever seen. There were no lights, things barely glowed, just wasn’t fun at all. The teen working seem nervous the whole time, kept looking over at the owners. I ordered some drinks from them & they were polite because they needed to be, they made me uncomfortable. But whatever, it was fine, I guess.
However….
Fast forward to a few weeks later, I see a Facebook post about how horrible of an experience a family had. I showed my husband who was like “oh yeah they have a terrible reputation” THEN I see the owners make a public post calling out the family…So I decided to leave a comment about our disappointment as a family too. Oddly enough I have now been blocked from their facebook page and my comment was removed….
So here I am, leaving a review that I probably wouldn’t have until they decide to try to silence me elsewhere. Maybe try listening? Maybe business would improve. Nothing I said was rude or hateful, literally just said all the same stuff in this review. Anyways, we will never be returning & will not even humor returning at this point. Good luck.
My family and I started bowling here nearly every Saturday and or Sunday a few months ago. We found that for my wife and and I and an 11 year old and 15 year old that the atmosphere was very family friendly and very welcoming. Jerry helped me out picking my first bowling ball to have drilled. I have enjoyed joking and talking with Brad, Cooper, and Janice. The lanes are well maintained and the building is always clean. Plenty of regulars as well! Thank you guys for such a great hobby for my family and I to enjoy! Keep up the fantastic job!
I was so disappointed with Thunderbowl Lanes, and I'm sad to now see (reading reviews in local groups) that it wasn't a one time issue.
I worked in direct care with an adult with intellectual and physical disabilities. He loved to bowl when he was younger, and I was excited to take him one day. He is incredibly immune compromised, so he wore a mask well after the peak of covid and did not leave his house very often. We arrived in the early afternoon during the week and the place was empty. I mentioned the immune sensitivity of the individual I was with and requested a lane on one far end of the alley. I asked if, when more people entered, they could be placed toward the other end of the alley if at all possible to keep distance, and then reassured the worker that we wouldn't be there for more than an hour. He was completely indifferent to our situation, in the empty building, and said that he couldn't separate groups and for some unknown reason actually needed to group guests close together. I resigned, sadly, and just decided we would leave if it got busier. I also requested bumpers, as it would obviously increase the enjoyment of the individual I was supporting to actually get the ball to the end of the lane. The teenage employee was very hesitant to put up bumpers and acted like he was having to break policy or really step outside of his comfort zone to do so.
We played two quick games and left, and I'll never go back. What awful customer service, which clearly stems from awful training and hostile management. It's too bad, because my family of 9 in Clayton would love somewhere local to support.
Nice place, we always have a great time!
Brought our family in today. It was snowing outside and my son had his hoodie up.. as soon as we stepped in a younger boy at the desk raised his voice and told my son to put his hoodie down. Before writing this review I did see on the website that hoodies should be down, but he could’ve asked him nicer. When my husband requested a lane the boys spoke down to him telling him the price in a manner as if we couldn’t afford it. I have bowled at this place so many times over the years and have never had a problem. I find it sad that while we are putting money in their pockets we were treated the way we were. We will never be back. It’s a shame because it’s easier to be nice than to have a bad attitude when working with customers.
