I love this restaurant! We order delivery every weekend! The workers are so nice. The food is delicious. My family and I love the mac n cheese and collard greens in particular. The beef stew is delicious and the fried chicken wings are so good. I am a big fan.
This place is trash …front girl worker had to be about 16 was very slow on the cash register…counting seemed little bit hard for her..she moves beyond slow & can’t handle more than one thing at a time.. I stood in line for 10-15 with only 2 other customers in front of me ! Mind you they called me & stated the food was ready 15 mins prior .
Now lemme get started on the FOOD. STAY AWAY ! It’s giving “I just woke up 1 day & decided to open a restaurant” . I’m really curious as to where the cook got their culinary training from ? On paper a Puerto Rican soul food infusion is an amazing idea but there has to be execution & on that note failed miserably. You have to know how to be able to mix & blend flavors correctly & not rely on sofrito sauce to get you buy. Everything was bland tasteless …the MAC & cheese was beyond horrendous…just noodles dried up cheese & pepper! Salt non existent! Why are there over 60 menu items for such a small establishments. Focus on a few menu items & get those to perfection
Overall I would stay away there much better quality of food in the area. The customer service is what really sealed the deal for me Wendy’s drive through at 1am moves faster then this place & that little big child they have working the register
Great Environment, Great Hospitality, Great Food , Food did take some time but great food will take a long time to perfect .. The white rice with the red beans are so delicious. Fried Fish and Fried Shrimp is a must try and make sure you don’t forget to get The Uptown to wash all the food down and finish off with the Strawberry Cheesecake… I’ll be back you’re favorite reviewer Ariii
The weekend spot has been one of my staples at least twice a month. The food is always excellent and served in great portions as well as temp. Whenever I need some good soul food after a long week the Weekend Spot is it!
I was near the area and wanted to give this place a try. I ordered online the southern baked chicken, collard and cabbage mix and yellow rice and it said about 30 to 40 minutes and it came to $14.66. I arrived at the restaurant about 20 minutes later and walked in and a few people were waiting. The nice young man Jay said it wasn't ready. As I waiting the line got longer and longer. I waited about 40 more minutes for my food. The wait was ridiculous and the communication was terrible. Yes the server was very nice but that wait will keep me from returning. When it was done I grabbed my food and uptown and left.
As I drove home I drank some of the uptown and it was ok. When I got home and ate the baked chicken was good and so was the yellow rice. The collard greens and cabbage was a bit salty. All in all I only had an ok experience.
If I could give it zero stars I would. The Mac and cheese is so salty! The rice is hard. And the salmon is barely seasoned. This food is so nasty and I’m so annoyed I spent money on it.
Best Soul Food in NJ no questions asked... make sure you call your order in because it's cooked fresh but The Good Lord blessed every second of the cooking of this food.
I met Chef Mo in Restaurant Depot. She told me about her restaurant in Newark. I told her I would visit the following week. The food at The Weekend Spot was excellent.... I am a New Yorker and we love food. I had the Mac and cheese, Collard greens, Jasmine rice, black beans, potatoe salad, fried chicken and Oxtail stew..... I better not forget the banana pudding.....Everything was good. I mean excellent..... Flavors are bursting thru your mouth. Thank you Chef Mo for introducing me to your Weekend Spot Restaurant.... The workers are Friendly, helpful and professional......
Please visit The Weekend Spot you will not be disappointed....
I am recommending this spot to all my family, friends and co workers.
