Best KPortal Reviews

Pub of the year 1993 up on the wall, that says it all really. Cash only in massive letters when you walk in… another red flag perhaps… unperturbed my partner and I carried on and took a right into the saloon bar… we were immediately hit by the musty smell. This is where we first met the landlady… didn’t look at us.. just said cash only… I asked for two halves as I knew going in was a big mistake… I was very polite, perhaps too polite given the experience so far… to say we were met with contempt for coming into the establishment and buying a drink was an understatement. No eye contact, no thank you… all we got was… £5 and a hand outstretched…. the rudest person we have ever met. After that she went off out the back and that was that. I was just going to leave the drinks there and go but my partner, quite rightly said we should drink them…. I would loved to have visited 30 years ago when it was pub of the year as I would imagine it was worlds apart… unfortunately for us we both agreed it was the worst pub we had ever been to bar none… but what an experience!!
The previous reviews were the reason I sought out this pub and if you don't have a car you will need to make an effort! I'm glad to say this country pub exceeded all my expectations...good real ale served by gravity straight from the barrel...no food only snacks....as one of the punters said just like pubs used to be a few decades ago...a trip back in time! If you're looking for the original no nonsense quintessential English pub then look no further!
Lovely small, unpretentious pub. Beer is excellent quality - nice place to visit
From lunch nearby at the pig and whistle: stopped here for a drink. First time.
Straight away our party of 4 who were smartly dressed thought we were in a comedy sketch. I'd read the good reviews so good country pub and good beer right?
Benny Hill 1970's seemed to be the rule.
The rude landlady? Abruptly asked our order and with apparent contempt served away. There were 2 people in the saloon bar yet we were directed to the public bar on our own. It's rough but not ready. Has character but no comfort. Draughty.
I didn't bother to check the toilets but if they were those that I saw outside then I wouldnt want to.
I see no sense in making customers feel unwelcome. Especially when all of hospitality is struggling.
I don't leave negative reviews . I generally dont waste my time. But in this case my advice is to avoid at all costs. It's museum with owners who either dont care or have lost hope while a restaurant around the corner cleans up. I give it 1 star because the beer was reasonable but served in a plastic glass?
Oh and it's a cash only bar in the middle of no where. Plastic glasses but taking cash only? Sums it up. There's quirky and there's dirty. Not for me. We won't be going back.
Great heritage pub. Very relaxing place. Beer quality excellent. Drank Ridley's Rite
3.6. Two real ales available. Wish it was my local. Highly Recommended
This place was disappointing as it was very small inside. We had one drink and then went to a pub we were familiar with. First & last time I'm afraid.
unreal place like going back in time! loved it! bring on the summer to go again!
