Best KPortal Reviews

Room was fine, comfortable and clean. Bathroom clean but not practical. No-where to put toiletries except a high window sill. Could do with a towel rail next to the basin. Had breakfast on first morning, yuk. Anaemic sausage and the mushrooms tasted like they were boiled in last year's oil. Couldn't even finish it. Went to the tea room/café next door the next morning, they do fab breakfasts from 8.30am onwards. Would definitely recommend eating elsewhere to anyone staying in the hotel. Staff were fairly pleasant but just employees not owners, and it shows. They do the bare minimum and just don't care about the place. Ate in hotel one evening as it was steak night. Food okay, but nothing to shout about.
The only good thing about this place is the location and that's it. ||||Stayed here on a 1 night stop-off on our way further into Cornwall. Price was attractive enough but that's where the good stuff ends. Never checked into a "hotel" or B&B before without having to fill in some sort of guest sign-in, but this one was just given a key and told the room was upstairs.||||Decor was dark, dirty and extremely poor condition. Bathroom was shoddy. Grout between the tiles in the shower was black, the cover for the drain hole was broken off, the drain hole was disgusting, full of scum and hair. The shower didn't drain so feet were swimming. Window in bedroom had a cable routed out of it so it didn't close properly. Had a badly fitting blind and no curtains so 6am the daylight was right in my face. Bed was appallingly uncomfortable. Best thing about the room was the TV ||||Paid extra £17 for breakfast in advance and agreed a time to go down for it with the lady that checked us in. Arrived 5 mins early in the morning to find all doors downstairs locked and not a single person around. Spent 30+ minutes banging on doors and phoning to try and find a member of staff so we could have breakfast, without any joy. No one came, no one answered and we had to leave hungry, out of pocket and angry. Wouldn't stay here again if someone paid me! Currently pursuing a refund through Booking.com since the hotel have not responded to emails and don't seem to answer the phone.||||Avoid at all costs. There are loads of much nicer places to stay
There appears to be some confusion between the Twyford "hotel" and "inn." This review refers to the hotel, Lowman Green, telephone 01884 251099. ||May I be the first to admit in taking the blame for booking one night's B & B and not doing sufficient research. I, misltakenly, understood a jazz band was playing at the hotel on the 29 July.A fault, it later transpired, with the band's web site, since removed. Before booking with the hotel, however, I took the precaution of telephoning the hotel on the 18 May at 20.02 hours. This, from my phone log. I spoke to a lady to enquire whether a band was indeed playing on the evening of the 29 July and upon reassurance booked a room direct on line on the hotels' own web site. As the lady had an overseas accent repeated my enquiry 2 or 3 times to be sure there was no loss of understanding in translation. In booking, I added a note in the comments box seeking confirmation the band was due to play that evening. I did not have the courtesy of a reply but only by the 24 May learned from the band that a mistake had been made on their web site in that they were not playing at the hotel and were indeed performing at a private fund raising event.||Consequently I tried to email the hotel but it would not deliver. This was compounded by the fact that in trying to phone instead, the line was engaged and the hotel refuses to facilitate the leaving of a message. After several attempts to speak to someone I eventually got through and spoke to the same lady, requesting cancellation of my reservation and under the circumstances requested a refund of my 50% deposit as a gesture of goodwill. After all, this was within a few days of booking and they had over 2 months notice. She had to refer my request and I later had a call back from a gentleman. "Gentleman" being an oxymoron as it turned out. He flatly refused, claiming, inter alia, that the room would have been blocked out. This I understand and when I went on to explain I had made enquires through the hotel before booking and had also indeed put a note in the comments box, he became defensive and accused me of lying, continually talking over me. I couldn't get a word in edge ways and in the end had to shout, basically to get him to shut up. In refusing to believe that I had made the original phone call when booking, I challenged him as to whether calls were recorded but he claimed they were but deleted after 2 days. I again challenged him as to why I had no reply to my note in their booking comments box only to be told "these are not read until nearer the time of the date booked." ||As I have said, I accept responsibility, but some humility and courtesy would not go amiss from this dreadful man with a gesture of goodwill refund.
This is a genuine review. So I've never had a high tea ever and wanted to do one. Me and a few friends saw a groupon and decided to do it. Wish we hadn't! We had sandwiches (totally fine actually), scones and cakes with tea and prosecco. It cost £22.50 for two, we booked six so over £65 spent. We had a bottle of prosecco and honestly kids party food! The cakes were mini rice crispie cakes and these stupid plain cakes with buttons on top. Honestly they're in Tesco for 99p for a pack of 12. As a group we didn't eat any of the cakes, totally disgusting. At £11 a head I had a sandwich and glass of prosecco, what a rip off! I've attached a photo of what we got. Please zoom in on the cakes and remember this is over £65 worth! We were also the only ones in there on a Saturday at 6pm which speaks volumes. So to the owners, please sort it out. Get better food in or you will fail. If you look at my other reviews you will see I do this as a genuine thing to help others. I won't be coming back and that's a shame as I've seen your groupon for evening meal deal. Not happy!
We had a two course lunch here, while visiting the area. The place was not busy, only two other customers, which is a shame because we had a lovely lunch of starter and main. The portions were very generous and although the choices were traditional each dish had an interesting twist! Capers in the salad, tasty spices in the dressings/sauces and served with garlic bread. The staff were polite and attentive but not intrusive.
I wouldn't stay here again if you paid me to. Only saw the staff, one woman at the bar, on arrival, she told us no one will be in building overnight, door left unlocked for exit. She handed us a key and told us room number, showed us through door to stairs, and left us to it. Eventually after following stuck up paper signs through dirty, tired corridors we arrived at our room. First thing I noticed was the lead from tv leading out of our window, so if you tried to shut the window you would cut the lead!! Super kingsize bed, with big piece of foam on top, no mattress protector, it was surprisingly comfortable and we both slept well. Shower power was great, but shower tray and walls, black with mould, and the silicone was actually black in a white shower. Clothes rail for wardrobe, shall I go on? Adequate tea and coffee. Not a sole about next morning, left key to room on banister and left.
We arrived on Saturday afternoon and the receptionist checked us in to room number 3 . We had chosen somewhere with a bistro and bar but the kitchen was closed and bar closed by 19.45 and no breakfast on offer either.
We therefore went out to eat and on return at 19.45 the place was in darkness and no staff available so we had to go to our tiny room.
We noticed that the door had previously been broken and the lock had been repaired with plastic wood and screws that did not fix the lock to the door adequately which was disconcerting.
We eventually went to sleep as were travelling early the next day, unfortunately, midnight arrived and we were woken by violent banging on the front door. We spoke out of window to say no staff available but there was a phone number to ring on back door. Half an hour later the manager arrived and he let the latecomers in, unfortunately voices were raised and I had to leave our room to ask that they keep their voices down.
We were feeling quite insecure and would never stay there again.
Wow. Stay somewhere else. Anywhere else! I would give this place no stars if I could. This place is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. To begin with, the staff became defensive when they couldn't find our second room booking. The place lacked any atmosphere, the beds were purely springs, and the windows didn't seem to block any of the sound from the street below even though they were closed. But we thought we would just give it a go considering we were only planning to be there for one night. I regret that we didn't just leave right away. We went out for the evening and we're told to enter through the back door when we came back for which we had a key. When we tried the key upon returning, it did not work. We tried for several minutes and then called the number on the door because there are no onsite staff and were told by a very unpleasant man that he would be there in a minimum of 15 minutes. We had not anticipated having to wait so long outside (it was very cold and one of our party needed to go to the bathroom) and asked if someone could be here sooner. We were promptly told that they couldn't be there sooner and they were happy to cancel our booking if we wanted. Considering that we had already checked in and that all our bags were already in the hotel, this response did not go down so well with us and they responded that they didn't care if we couldn't access our belongings. The guy showed up 20 Minutes later and even he couldn't unlock the door. Eventually, he got in through another door and then let us in to the hotel. The only reason we stayed the night is that we were with our older parents who were very tired at this point and did not want us to make the 2.5hr drive home at 2am. If we had been by ourselves, we would have simply grabbed our bags and left. These people should not be allowed to work in the hospitality industry.
