The nasi lemak with fried chicken was quite expensive compared to other Malay restaurants in London. The chicken was dry and you could tell the cucumber and prawn crackers had been sat around for a while, not freshly sliced or fried. The sambal was good and generous but the meal was generally a bit of a let down. They also had sold out of satay while it was only late lunch on a Friday.
The staff weren't that helpful or friendly.
This new Malaysian Food place really hits all the right notes of our nasi spots, in both taste and texture. We ordered 2 nasi lemaks with fried chicken, one of the nasi lemak we added salted duck egg (they gave me extra because they recognised my desperate telur masin cravings), beef rendang rice and chicken satay. It is a real find to get such good nasi lemak here, which is so lemak and cooked to perfection in London. Their acar is the best we have found in London in recent times, by a long long yard stick. It was superbly pickled and crunchy. Their acar is just flavourful enough to pass as acar awak, which usually has a very much more intense flavour back home. Their chicken was fried to perfection, crunchy outside, juicy and tender on the inside and just right (not too salty, not oily, not dry or tough). Their ikan bilis has a bit of sugar in it. So it was crunchy, a bit sweet and a bit salty. It was a style of ikan bilis we have not tasted since childhood (never in London). Brought back good memories. Their nasi lemak sambal is deep in flavour, with dried prawns taste and a bit smoky, not overly spicy. Their chicken satay comes freshly grilled with properly charred grilled bits. The smoky flavour is rich in their satay sauce, making its peanutty taste more decadent and superbly pairs with not only the satay itself but also the satay sides of fresh onion and cucumber. Love their salted ducks eggs, which was salted properly and no funny smells. Beef rendang is good, not overly spicy, flavourful and is the sweetish kind. The keropok is a nice touch. All very well done. Service was friendly and helpful from all real Malaysian staff & cooks. Will be going back to try their other dishes. Highly recommend this place, especially for all the nasi lovers.
best nasi lemak in London. Been here four times already and the taste has always been maintained perfectly !! I have huge trouble finishing my food but I can finish this restaurant’s nasi lemak ! The beef rendang is just chefs kiss and perfect fried chicken. Their nasi lemak sambal is just authentic and yummy. If you are looking for proper flavourful but NOT SPICY nasi lemak , don’t walk but RUN to The spice Lab Malaysian Street Food. Lovely customer service as well ???????? — This is a sincere review , from a Malaysian missing home ❤️❤️❤️
Portion sizes are quite small for £14 so you don't get your value for money if that's what you're looking for. It's in a beautiful church in Central London.
I got a seafood laksa and taste wise it's average and is on the spicier side. Very little seafood (thr frozen kind) .
Great to support an Asian owned business but I'll be trying other shops next time.
Good vegan spicy tofu and rice. 3 types of rice was a lovely surprise. They made it spicy for me and I ordered extra tofu but I was surprised at how big the portion was. Food was good. The staff are friendly and kind.
After reading about this place, I decided to try it. The beef rendang which is a beef stew rich and tender with coconut, and it's delicious. It comes with three colored rice, shrimp crackers, a boiled egg, and a small salad on the side. Be prepared to pay a little bit more, afterall we're dining in Mayfair.
This was our first time trying Malaysian food. We loved the presentation, the plate seems to be made of banana leaf or something similar. It was nice to have lots of different elements on the dish. We found that only forks are provided so it’s impossible to eat properly or cut things. The chicken was piping hot, I like salty food but it was a little too salty and a bit dry on the edges. It was ok, but would not return as flavours and freshness was not to my taste.
Me & my friends went to thus NEW restaurant called Med Salleh kopitiam at 35 - 39 Inverness Terrace, Bayswater. NOT the one at Mercato called Spice Lab. Though both were under the same owner who runs Spice Lab, Mercato. We prefer his new restaurant Med Salleh kopitiam. Thanks to Med Pang for his great service & his recommendations of dishes from the menu. Highly recommended and worth the trip to Bayswater. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
