Sunday lunch was pretty good, very generous portions.
Asked for a side of mash for a baby, was told they don't serve it with Sunday roast, despite it being in the kids menu. They did offer an alternative though
March 2024. Pub had only been open two days under new ownership after being closed and empty for over a year. We were made very welcome by staff. The number of locals who arrived suggested that the reopening had been eagerly awaited and made for a lovely atmosphere.
Food was excellent. Well presented and a proper plateful.
The huge Yorkshire Puddings were of special note and the pride of Jamie the Chef who came out for chat.
One little chap in particular was enjoying his Yorkshire. A very friendly little dachshund who had popped in with his owners.
Will be visiting again soon.
Having just newly opened and us new to the area, we wanted to visit our local for the first time. We went into the bar area and found a little table and ordered at the bar. The young chap behind the bar was friendly and quick at serving me and the drink selection is exactly what you expect from a place like this.
We originally just wanted a few drinks but upon seeing another table receive their Sunday roasts we immediately had to have it. The roasts came soon and we found the portions were amazing. Loads of veg including cabbage, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower cheese. The main plate had the beef, parsnips, potatoes and stuffing on, plus the bigger Yorkshire pudding I've seen for a while. It was all amazing and we just about managed to finish the plate.
Overall the food was brilliant, the service was genuinely surprisingly good, especially since it was their 2nd or 3rd day open. We'll happily be back asap to try a few other items on their menu
Dropped in for a bite to eat. Bar was busy so we went to the restaurant and a la carte. Food was lovely, big portions!. Great service. Stick toffee pud was authentic and lovely. I think the pub has just reopened after being closed for a while. Definitely a good place to stop.
We were so pleased to see this place open again.
Great atmosphere (it was only the 2nd night!)... the place was buzzing.
Saw some food coming out, which looked lovely. We'll definitely call again next time we're in the area.
Very short notice booking dealt with courteously and efficiently. Cosy pub for Sunday lunch. Lovely friendly staff. Delicious plentiful food...sweets particularly tasty ( Bakewell cheesecake and chocolate brownie) plus smart spotless toilets...highly recommend.
Excellent sunday lunch at the Ship Inn, amazing Yorkshire puddings with delicious gravy. Tasty desserts to top it off also. Friendly service, highly recommended.
Surprised to be served Coke Zero from a 2L plastic bottle that had already been opened. We were charged over £10 for the two pints of Coke Zero (and two packets of crisps), we would have been better buying the whole bottle ourselves from Morrisons for £1.99, at least it would have still been fizzy.. this practice is more suited to a working mens/rugby/cons clubs and you would therefore expect the pricing to be reflected as such.
The premises didn't look like it had undergone a refurbishment as the signage displayed outside the pub for a number of months indicated. Ladies toilets were not clean and had a questionable stain on the wall.
Server was nice and the Sunday roast looked good, next time we will try this and go for an alcoholic drink that is on draught. We've been looking forward to the reopening and we hope that these are just teething issues. Disappointing first impression.
