Stopped here overnight before going to a classic car show at Bowood House. There was a warm welcome when we arrived and we were quickly shown to our room. The room was comfortable and the bathroom had nice fluffy towels. We decided to eat in the hotel as there didn't appear to be anything else in walking distance. There was a set 'residents; menu or al a carte to choose from and we decided to order from both! The food was very tasty and filling. It did seem fairly quiet as there was no one in the bar after the meal, but proved to be busier the next morning at breakfast. The freshly cooked English breakfast was again very good and set us up for the day. Overall a lovely property and a good place to stay. (Note: a couple of other guests did have dogs with them, so be aware of this if you stay here as it could be the same for you)
We had booked up from Friday 27 - Sunday 29 September 2019 two rooms. We were given rooms 5 & 7 which both couples really liked. The reality is that this place is actually advertised as only a 2 star hotel and yet we felt it surpassed that status as the all the positive Tripadvisor reviews will confirm. The hotel is situated on the Bath Road just outside Melksham. There is ample parking and I believe that they only have 12 rooms. The hotel is run by Nick, Paul & Emma. Most of our interaction was through Emma and she was so friendly and really lovely. We never actually had an evening meal at the hotel but many others did and said how wonderful it was. We however booked up a local taxi and went out to a couple of places for evening meal that were literally 5 minutes away by taxi. Next time we stay here we would certainly use the restaurant for an evening meal. Breakfast was superb and that really set the four of us up perfectly. Our rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. The bathrooms were both very good and we had no problems throughout our stay. We would all highly recommend this hotel as it was simply perfect for us. Thank you.
Stayed somewhere else on the Friday night decided to go somewhere else for Saturday. Turned up at 11am and from then on the hosts could not do enough to look after us. There was 4 adults and a teenager plus 2 dogs in our party and as they had no family room for us Nick, one of the twins gave us a room for our teenager free of charge!|| The twins, Nick, Paul and Emma, one of the twins wives, were 5* hosts. Emma kept bar and also served us in the restaurant and looked after us as if we were family. They were so accommodating we couldn't have asked for more. Our rooms were clean, airy and with massive beds that were soooo comfortable.||I have read the poor and terrible reviews on here, glad there are only a couple, and yes, some parts of the hotel are dated, but the hosts more than made up for this, and as this is a privately owned business you understand, that at this time they particularly need support. Saying this, this did not detract from our time here at all. Everywhere was spotlessly clean.||The food was excellent, we opted for bar meals and desserts, all meals were delicious and we'll presented, large portions, I am a classically trained chef myself, and usually can pick a hole somewhere, not this time!||Desserts were equally as good, homemade pecan pie was ace, as was the gingerbread sponge pudding. Breakfast was served with no fuss and was of great quality, tomatoes that actually tasted of tomatoes, a rarity these days, with lovely Lincolnshire style sausages, that with the thick cut bacon must have been supplied by the local butcher. Scrambled eggs cooked perfectly. Didn't even have to ask for decaf coffee as Emma remembered from the day before. ||We were hugged and thanked and sent on our way as we left, thanking our hosts thinking were so lucky to have found this little gem of a quaint, quirky, gem of a hotel.||Thank you Emma ,Nick and Paul, you have slot to live up too when we return.||WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!||WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!
From the very first night of our stay I was impressed. Emma was very friendly and welcoming and my 2 year old son loved being in her company...even helping her work in the office! ||The rooms were comfortable and clean and all our meals were delicious. Although they do not supply a children’s menu they would ask me exactly what my son would like and make it up for him. ||I would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return soon.
What a hidden gem this hotel is! We spent three nights at the hotel whilst visiting family in the area. On approach it looks beautiful - an ivy clad old stone farm house set off the road in very pretty grounds. The hotel itself comprises about a dozen rooms, a small residents lounge, a pleasant bar, fantastic restaurant, a quiet patio and garden. Our room was large and well appointed with a huge six foot bed; the bathroom was great - I have never experienced a bath that fills so quickly, especially in a hotel!! Its location was close to family but is deal for visiting nearby Lacock, Bath (which we did - about 9 miles away), Salisbury and other local attractions and places of interest. The owners and their staff were very helpful and friendly.
The restaurant was fantastic - we ate in the first night, bar meals, which were tasty, generous in size, beautifully cooked and well presented at a very reasonable price. The cooked breakfast was to die for - good quality ingredients prepared to perfection; we looked forward to it each morning!
This hotel comes highly recommended both from a quality and value for money viewpoint, in fact we're already planning another visit later in the summer!
Wow AGAIN what a wonderful evening! Staff are so lovely very welcoming, cheerful and very professional!||The hotel is always clean and very well presented, bar area welcoming too!||Restaurant well, the food is well presented, hot and very very tasty and plenty of it. Everyone really enjoys our event here wether it’s for a Christmas meal, a Sunday roast, birthday party or a wedding we have always had an excellent time. A visit here for that special occasion is very well recommended
From arrival to leaving staff were friendly and attentive. The Hotel is in a beautiful location, and really accessible. The hotel itself is beautiful, relaxing and quiet. It has a real country feel to it. ||The hotel room was stunning, the bed was very big and incredibly comfy and the room was presented to a really high standard and the decor is really tasteful.||The evening food and breakfast was amazing too, presented well and good quality food.||This has been one of the best stays away I’ve had a long time, and it may only have 2 stars but the quality is so much higher. I would definitely come back again and would highly recommend to anyone, it’s been a really enjoyable stay, thank you
It was an ideal venue for my mother in law's 90th birthday to enjoy drinks with 56 friends and family members on arrival, a 2 course sit down meal of high quality, tea and coffee, wine and speeches with sparkling wine! Service was efficient and friendly, food was very tasty and had great 'plate appeal'. We were all very well looked after.
