Their breakfast sandwich & quiche are incredibly good! The young owners are very friendly & the service was great! I love the small airport setting. Felt like we were on the set for the old series Wings.

Amazing atmosphere and beautiful furniture, but the quality of the food eclipses all of that!!! Early Bird is the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had anywhere!

Imagine that you are walking onto the set of that old sitcom 'Wings' ... that's where you'll find The Salty Owl.
The Salty Owl's friendly staff serves up some wonderful food given its small kitchen and serving space. It's obviously a local lunch spot - very few of the customers (like us) were flying anywhere that day.
The Menu is small but high quality. We had the Ricotta Polenta with Lemon Chicken (that's grits to some folk) and the Breakfast Sandwich, both really quite good - up there with the best food we had during our trip.
Parking at the airport is free, and it was fun to wander around the small terminal, and watch the planes taking off from the Adirondack chairs situated along the fence.
Found this jewel after a bike tour of the Owl's Head Lighthouse which is located inside the local airport! It was perfect - freshly baked pastry pies with a variety of creative and very tasty fillings and sauces. Salads and chicken salad also looked amazing. Family owned and run, they are all very attentive and friendly. Definitely with a lunch visit if you staying in Rockland or passing by.

Although the Salty Owl is located within the Knox County Regional Airport, this is not the typical airport cafe that might come to mind. The cafe itself exudes charm, comfort, and hospitality. The menu lives up to that ambience. Comforting, delicious, beautiful, and thoughtful selections. The emphasis is on baked goods. Muffins, hand pies, etc. Take a seat by the window to enjoy the action on the runway. Bonus: the breakfast pie is served with a salsa Verde that I could drink by the gallon!
Don't be fooled by the airport setting, this is a welcoming local hot spot with the most flavorful food you'll find in the area! If you're missing those southwest inspired flavors and need to give your taste buds a treat, this is the place to go!
