Best KPortal Reviews
My partner, myself and our baby went here for lunch yesterday. Probably one of the best experiences we've had. The staff were absolutely incredible, such positive, friendly, kind and lovely people. This was the first outing we had as a family of 3 and they made the experience unforgettable. The food was great too. Can not recommend this place enough.
A really lovely venue, a very great menu with some really interesting dishes.
A good selection of beer and other drinks, was warm and welcoming.
Would have been 4 stars however for the price the food could have been a little better, mainly the steak was a bit fatty and when pointed out to the staff they were barely apologetic, and more had a 'oh well' attitude.
Would go back and give it another go.
The pub has new owners so I popped in for a pint. What a warm and friendly welcome! The interior is beautiful now, a roaring fire, and the bar has a full range of excellent drinks. It was busier than the average rural pub for a Thursday night, though not too busy, and all the locals were friendly and happy to engage. The ale was first class; a tribute to their cellar-craft. I thought the barmaid had undercharged me, but no, it was simply very good value. I will definitely be going here again!
Lovely pub in a beautiful old village. Good standard decor and nice garden.
Had an unreal night last weekend at the Royal Oak, but not in the good sense! We have been many times and always really enjoyed the food, the service and the atmosphere, recommending to lots of friends and family.
We booked for a anniversary meal knowing what to expect, but couldn't have been more wrong.
Didn't start too well as we couldn't get in the pub properly via one of the entrances \ exits. Table and chairs were blocking, a fire risk and slightly illegal!
There was a large group that were on a work party and obvious that they would be loud, not an issue normally as it adds some atmosphere. As the evening went on the loudness increased to the point where 2 people sitting next to each other couldn't hear each other. We practically had to place our order via hand signals.
The staff made no attempt to look after all the other diners by speaking to the group ( seen other pubs do this and manage well). In fact the staff pretty much avoided the area, probably due to the noise.
The service was quick though, which was a blessing and allowed us to get out as quickly as we could, skipped dessert though as had enough by that point.
The food was just ok, they've done better in the past. However don't order the Nibble platter, simply not good value at £20. It was small and unbalanced (5 small prawns for 2 people??).
A pity a larger tables revenue ruined several diners experience, and the long term effect will yet be determined as word of mouth still carries weight. Perhaps private room hire for Christmas parties is a better way to go?
What was more disappointing was the metaphorical shrugging of the shoulders when we mentioned it on the way out, like it should just be accepted. Poor customer service.
I personally won't recommend it for a moderately atmospheric meal, ideal though if you book a large table and want the place to yourself without paying for the privilege.
Travelled from Bournemouth to visit Bletchley Park and found this place, lovely staff, good food and service excellent , special thanks to Leon who was really lovely would definitely recommend and revisit ! They are all new and have only been there 5 weeks so go and show your appreciation and try for yourselves
Charming pub with excellent food.
What a gem of a pub is the Royal Oak. They have a good one way system in place to keep you safe and a book to record visitors for track and trace.
The bar area is well laid out with a good selection of beers and sprits and looks like it have been recently been refurbished keeping the charm and features from the original building.
The dinning room also looks like it has recently been refurbished. Once again very in keeping with the original building but very stylish with a modern theme.
The menu is short but plentiful - something for everyone. We ordered and our food arrived swiftly. The presentation was spot on and tasted even better than it looked. Our mains also looks good on the plate and were super tasty and perfectly cooked. We didn't have a dessert as we were full!
This pub is a real gem of a find and we will definitely be back at some point depending on the covid situation.
Just popped in for a quick pint on the way back from exploring the delights of Castle Ashby. Fabulous pint of Tring beer, and was pleasantly surprised that the choice of ales included 2 under 4%; which is rare and great for the pop in pint crowd, or sessioners ????????
We didn't eat but had a look at the week and weekend menus that looked varied and extremely tasty. The reccomendation from a local was the pie using the local cheese! We will be back soon to try the food for sure!
We were made to feel incredibly welcome by the friendly and helpful staff! A certain reccomendation. **Watch out for the food review soon! **
