Best KPortal Reviews
Just popped in for a pint, friendly crowd and good selection of beers. Nice spacious pub. I'm not a local but have visited several years ago when the Helston Floral Dance was on. I'll be back in a couple of months and I'll be sure to pay another visit.
Great pub, good music at weekends, friendly management and staff ????
The woman behind the bar is the most negative, vile and miserable person I’ve ever met. I tried to be polite calling up and asking the boss to review cctv however the boss taking the phone call, let the woman over hear said conversation and let her dictate what was said. “Don’t apologise on my behalf”. They “couldn’t care less, don’t have the energy and the conversation was going nowhere” because they weren’t getting the outcome of what they would like; meaning they hung up on myself. Don’t ever pretend to have an “attitude” about losing a game of pool as you’ll be refused service and met with a hostile member of staff. She’s a miserable woman who shouldn’t work with people, let alone merry Christmas goers. Steer clear of this pub if you have any banter about yourself as she will kick you out in a heartbeat. What a sad little woman she is. Merry Christmas you Scrooge. I hope 2024 is better for your old weary self and customer service improves.
Very nice welcome, found a nice glass for my girlfriends half pint, gave us a souvenir postcard.
A nice looking pub, seemed lively and had music playing. Pool tables, warm and seemingly well appointed. I think I have only left 1 other negative review, as I like to be factual and fair.
With that being said, they are NOT FRIENDLY here. I took my sisters into the pub, (4 adults 18, 21, 23 and 32 years) as we had time to kill before an escape room. we weren’t planning on drinking alcohol, but would have had soft drinks or crisps to pass the time. We also had a person that needed a wee. This pub has hundreds of positive reviews, so we felt like it was a great choice.
Immediately on walking in, we were stared at by the staff and patrons and it was really intimidating. Two of us sat down and two went straight to the loo. The manager came over and asked for our IDs and I said that I had mine on me, as I’m 32 and do carry it around, but our group wouldn’t be drinking anything alcoholic. At the moment we are just waiting for people to come back from the loo.
The manager (? I assume, he was a slightly older chap working the bar) replied ‘oh that’s fine’ and walked off. As he was walking away he said ‘be nice if you asked’. Which I presume was in reference to the use of the toilets?
People were still staring at us, as I assume they knew we weren’t locals. We felt like this wasn’t a pleasant environment and I personally don’t really want to give my money to a place that is so unwelcoming.
Once my sister was done in the loo, we made the decision to leave. As we left, a bar patron (I assume, as she was slurring her words a bit but she did say that what we did was ‘her business’) FOLLOWED us outside and told me ‘there are public toilets in this town’. I said that I had seen the street sign for the toilets but had no way of knowing where they were exactly, whether they were open and also that she didn’t know our business or whether we had actually wanted to drink etc. I was floored by the behaviour shown here and I’ve never had an experience like this anywhere else in Cornwall.
I guess not drinking alcohol in this pub means that you aren’t welcome and you can be harassed in the street by patrons. We weren’t rowdy, rude or trying to bring in food etc. we wouldn’t have spent much, but I took my money elsewhere.
Great dog friendly pub, great service serves food from Bookoos
Excellent pub and fantastic staff and owners. Very welcoming and friendly and excellent selection of local live music nights over the weekends
Neat little pub in town centre. St Austell Ales, maybe food, sometimes, very welcoming staff behind bar - just great for one or two at lunch.
