Best KPortal Reviews
Best pub I visited in Dundee for real Ales and atmosphere. The staff were brilliant, and I felt like a regular after my first visit.
Highly recommended!
I didn't try the food, but other people gave good feedback on it.
A great man once said "decent boozer". He couldn't be anymore correct. Great ales and a wide selection of lager. Reasonably priced. Toilets are great for hiding in (if you're blind) and if you find yourself in here on a Friday, you have the pleasure of watching at least one bloke pass out on account of their liking of decent ales.
I have been a patron of the pub for over 30 years and the food has always been fantastic especially the burgers, but today one of our party ordered a pizza and OMG the dough and crust were so tough and hard they couldnt eat it, the fillings fell off the pizza and the whole thing was not cut to be able to pick up the slices, very disappointed with the pizza.
A very warm welcome by friendly accommodating staff. An excellent selection of real ale, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Orkney Dark Island and Caledonian Deuchar 's IPA. All Caledonian and served in good condition. Food was excellent quality and value pub grub on the menu. Lively friendly atmosphere and an evident favourite with plenty of regulars in. Will visit again.
Classic, old school Scottish pub. Great atmosphere, decor what you'd expect in a traditional boozer and prices reasonable. Burger buns way too dry, but the burgers still tasty. Could happily spend another afternoon there...????
I visited with an American friend. She wanted to try genuine 'pub' food instead of the themed type which is prevalent in her part of the States.
We had cheese burgers and the 'ganga' fries. The fries are spicy, crispy and come with a lovely hot dip. Great for sharing. The burger was good and flavourful, good portions.
My friend ordered drinks and wasn't sure what to order. The bar tender was brilliant, and was quickly able to pinpoint what she may like and poured generous tasters for her to try. Friendly regulars too, who made her feel at ease in an unfamiliar environment.
Although on the level, accessibility for wheelchairs could be a problem, and the doorway could be a little tricky to navigate, especially when it's busy. I wouldn't recommend it for wheelchair users. This is mainly due to the age of the premises and the probable difficulty of upgrading the place to accommodate those with limited mobility.
Phoenix is a fantastic pub though! It was a regular haunt of mine when I went to college and art school in Dundee. There are lots of interesting paintings and drawings on the walls which tells of its link to the university and college.
I was pleased to experience that 'The Phoenix' still maintains excellent standards and the locals are as friendly as ever.
Best pub in the town for a pint and food. Always a nice atmosphere whenever I go in and the staff are friendly.
If only all pubs were run like this. Table was cleaned before we sat down and beers were served in the correct branded glasses. Understandably popular and great ales. Didn’t eat there but food looked good.
