We’ve been to The Old School Messingham, for Sunday lunch which was excellent!
Our starters were prawn cocktail, garlic mushrooms and chicken liver parfait.
Main courses were roast beef, and roast turkey served with Yorkshire pudding, roast and creamed potatoes, roast parsnips, cauliflower cheese, carrots, broccoli, green beans, leeks, savoy cabbage and red cabbage. All the vegetables were served separately together with a vey tasty gravy.
Dessert were mocha cake with cream, caramel brownie and baked cheesecake with ice cream.
We had a couple of bottles of wine, some sparkling water and we finished our meal with coffees.
An excellent meal, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented - well worth a visit!
Visited for a friend's birthday for afternoon tea, it was lovely and very filling! Our only complaint is the cream for the scones was a little "bitty" and lumpy not like the clotted cream we expected.
We went for afternoon tea which was a Christmas gift....
It was very cold on that particular day , but when we asked them, they did turn the heating up.
The food was good and you could tell it had been freshly made. The savoury selection came on a plate and the sweet selection came on a cake display plate, served with tea or coffee.
We went mid week and it was £20 per head for afternoon tea.... Good choice and freshly made.... but if you'll pardon the pun "enjoyable but not really my cup of tea"
A very nice old school turned restaurant, decor is amazing, breakfast was good but for over £10 not including drinks, I would have expected more than one slice of bacon. Staff are friendly and helpful. Parking was easy.
Seven of us went to celebrate my aunt's 90th birthday. They took a while to take our order when we were told it could take half an hour for the food to come. An hour later (after I compained) the food finally arrived. It wasn't too impressive for the price we paid. My aunt's food (the breakfast pie with potatoes) was cold and the pastry was rock hard. Those of us who had the steak open sandwich said theirs was only lukewarm. I mentioned all this to the waitress when she collected the dishes. We were never approached to see if we wanted more drinks or desserts and we never received an apology for the lateness of the food or the bad quality. They did knock some money off the bill but never told us until after we'd all tried to sort out what we owed. Very disappointed.....
I went for a family birthday. The service was very slow. I waited one hour for a Sandwich which was not that good. You can buy better and cheaper from the Lincolnshire Co-Op Supermarket down the road. No one came to ask if everything was ok ? Or would we like more drinks or pudding ? Or sorry about the very slow and poor service me and my family had. I will not be going again.
We saw it on our way home, drove passed, turned around, they serve food here which looked very tasty ???? we had already eaten but, we had a drink. Had a very enjoyable time, it has a license so really good. I also bought 2 dresses, there's an antique area and a little deli. Will go back next week for lunch. Staff were great ????
It's nice food but doesn't do many vegetarian options and no vegan options. Specifically does NOT cater for gluten free or but free. Weird antique store in the cafe which is very creepy but there is a nice shop and bar. The food is very expensive but nice. Not long waits either. Somewhat over priced. However they were kind for my friends birthday and reserved some pancakes for after 11am and also played birthday music and gave a candle in a cake. The birthday cake was for free.
