Well worth the tricky drive. Be warned, the last 2 miles (from Torrington) are very difficult, due to the appalling state of the almost non-existent road surface!
Once there however, you'll be glad you made the effort. The warmest of welcomes from the lovely staff, and a cosy dining room with just 6 or 7 tables, within an authentic old Devon farmhouse.
Our party (4 adults) decided on the cream tea for £7.50 each, and what a great decision that was. Absolutely the best scones we've ever tasted anywhere! So good in fact that we took away 4 to enjoy at home. Lashings of strawberry jam and delicious clotted cream, washed down with a refillable pot of quality tea, simply wonderful. Apparently they offer home cooked roast dinners during autumn/winter, so that's a definite date for a repeat visit later in the year. By which time perhaps that terrible road might have been resurfaced?
It was one of the best tearooms I have ever visited. The food was amazing, and the service 1st class. It is off the beaten track, but it is really worth the journey. Will definitely go again.
Tasty food
Heard good things about this place, so booked a table for lunch.
It's a small tea room, but it's has numerous tables outside for when the weather is better.
The service is very good and we didn't have to wait long before our food came out.
I ordered savory scones with pork terrine and it didn't disappoint, it was very tasty and the portions were generous.
They also make they're own cakes and always have a good selection to choose from.
The coffee is also very good here.
If your looking for a traditional west country place to have lunch, with some great food, then pop yourself along to the Old Farmhouse Kitchen and Tearoom
I absolutely love this place. I visited yesterday for my friend's birthday and we had such a lovely time sat in the peace and quiet drinking tea and eating delicious food. I had the special, which was hoisin scotch eggs with salad, coleslaw and potato salad and every bite was heavenly! We both had a giant slice of Easter egg cheesecake too (because you cannot visit without having some of the beautifully homemade cake - they are all too good!)
Super friendly service from everyone (thank you for the thoughtful gift for my friend!) You can really taste the love and care that has gone in to preparing the food here and I can't wait to go back. Delicious!
We visited earlier today and were greeted by a charming young girl. We had coffee and the homemade peanut butter brownie which was absolutely delicious.
I saw cream teas come out for other customers and it looked amazing. I noticed that you get two scones which looked lovely and fluffy, (some places only serve you one).
Another couple ordered a sandwich which looked really delicious.
We absolutely enjoyed our coffee and the service was very welcoming.
We intend to return again.
I’ve definitely got my eye on a cream tea!
Lovely place looking out over the countryside and wonderful food, cakes look amazing, catered for everyone, great facilities for children and babies.
Fantastic food, all home made and top quality. We had the afternoon tea which is excellent and sizeable (may need to ask for a doggy-bag unless you've got a big appetite). It's the 4th time that we have been here in the last 5 years or so and we can't wait until the next time we're in North Devon!
The Old Farmhouse made us afternoon tea to take away. The vegetable quiche was delicious. We all agreed the scones were the best we've ever tasted! ???? The cupcakes were pretty and so soft and yummy. Will be going back for more!
