Went for lunch today with my Husband and just want to say how lovely this place is, the food was absolutely gorgeous so tasty and large portions. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back.
Came in for breakfast, with my son on Monday morning. Only one other person in. We asked about having breakfast, informed just take a seat, and she would fetch the menu over. 8 minutes passed before the menu came over.
I was surprised that a cup of Yorkshire tea, in fact, all teas were overpriced above a coffee, at £3.10 and a coffee under the £3. Also surprised a hot beverage was a hot drink included in the £10.95 full breakfast, to which I ordered eventually. Without mushrooms as I don't like them, it seemed a waste to cook something I wouldn't eat. I asked for extra hash brown instead.
My son has eggs my way - scrambled with sausage.
The 2 plates finally came out 24 minutes after we ordered. I know food cooked fresh takes time, but this was ridiculous. Debated on leaving. We were the only 2 in that ordered food! The plates were cold when that came out, and mine also came out with mushrooms on and the extra hash brown. I'm not sure how one order in the kitchen could have caused such a lengthy time to cook and also still come out wrong.
Don't get me wrong, the food tasted nice when it inevitably arrived. My son, on the other hand, was baffled as to why he had an unnecessary balsamic Zigzag tainting the muffins on the plate and red powder decorating it. So he used his napkin to wipe it off.
Staff were polite and just seemed to be slow on this particular morning for some reason.
The back door was open, so the cafe felt chilly, perhaps with more people in, and the door shut would have been better. The ambience had character just no atmosphere.
Would I eat here again. Possibly, food was nice unfortunately a lengthy time for service, cold plates, and chilly dining room would see me try elsewhere first.
My Husband and I went for lunch today and just wanted to say how lovely this place is, great service and absolutely beautiful food, so well presented and tasted gorgeous. Really good portion sizes. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend for people to go you won't be disappointed.
We will definitely be back.
The food was excellent and good value but the service very poor.
No vegetarian option on the menu so my wife could only have a starter. The server seemed very disinterested ... the wrong type of person to have front of house. And really! ...dead daffodils in a vase – better to have no flowers at all.
No reason to go back!
My 3rd time at The New Derwent Bistro. Every visit has been 5☆
Today we had the afternoon tea. Wow, from the presentation to the taste to the quality of food amazing.
Such a warm welcome, beautiful table set up ready for us (we pre booked) to service just excellent. Staff are attentive, the whole area lovely and clean and such a great price. I'll 100% be back.
Been here this evening for the first time and I found it to be faultless. Both the wife and I had a starter each, we got the Tomahawk to share then a dessert each. All the food was cooked to perfection. The staff were nice and polite. Will definitely return
Tomahawk steak was really nice. There is the positive. The rest was not good. Soggy Tempura Veg that had been chopped so small it was hard to recognise and served in a bowl on a bed of lettuce. The "Pork Bites" from the specials was just a pork steak cut into quarters with a marinade on and covered in red cress. Pink Duck main course wasn't pink, overdone and tough with some very overdone limp Asparagus and arrived very late as the first Duck was dropped on the floor. We had to cancel a sauce for the Steak as it was way too late. We tried to voice our frustration but to be honest the staff were not good at taking feedback, I think they asked if everything was OK hoping not to receive the feedback. Spoke to the chef, young lad seemed like a rabbit in the headlights and knew the mistakes he had made. I genuinely don't know if he is the chef who put the menu together or whether he was covering the actual chef? I wish the New Derwent all the luck in the world as we want local businesses to succeed but on last nights showing, we won't be back. We live locally and eat out regularly. We can't even proportion any blame on it being busy, there were maybe 3 tables, one of which was complaining about the risotto. Even after getting the Tempura and duck taken off the bill we left disappointed. Such a shame!
Went here for lunch during the Christmas period and, understandably it was very busy. We had reserved a table.
We waited a long time for food and when it came it was rather unimpressive. I had a tuna toasty which I could have made at home of the same quality but for much cheaper. The chips were very nice and well-seasoned.
The staff were pleasant and the decor is very nice.
