The inside and food doesn't do the great looking outside justice.
Dark and dingy inside and mediocre food at best.
The menu handed to me was a dirty and tatty A4 printed sheet. Not much choice and for what I had, the steak, it was overpriced and nothing to write home about. It came with frozen chips. I asked for the blue cheese sauce. I've never seen brown blue cheese sauce before, packet based maybe, I don't know.
Very disappointed in what looks to be a nice restaurant on the outside.
Never to return.
We can't fault this place at all. Cozy atmosphere, attentive service, good portions of delicious food (that Arran mustard sauce!) and great coffees. Even the bathroom was fabulous, with little touches like cloth towels and scented lotion. We had the haggis, nachos, fish & chips and haggis stuffed chicken... all fantastic. We live about an hour away but will make it a point to return.
Pleasant and friendly. Good food. Pity about the village hall style tables which were just slightly low for the standard height dining chairs. Probably they just needed extra tables out because it was Mothering Sunday. (Good to find a busy place to eat.)
Sadly not a great experience. The service gets the 1 star but the food was incredibly poor. I had the couscous salad which consisted of couscous, bagged lettuce (which was turning brown), cucumber and tomato with a really bland dressing which tasted like olive oil and lemon, and this cost £11!!! My wife had nachos which was swimming in oil like they had been deep fried. I love to praise companies doing a great job but sadly, these guys were way off the mark. Overpriced and underwhemed i'm afraid.
I went out for the evening meal in this place tonight with my gran and her friend Ronnie. This place was clean. Beautiful old fashioned building but it was a big disappointment with main course.
I found the texture of the haggis was too soft, neeps still in big chucks not mashed properly, the mashed potato had no flavour at all that I can't even taste the mustard sauce. Yum I love the warn chocolate fudge cake that it make up from my main course.
I can give 3 out of 10 for that I afraid. But the staff were great but it a shame for the food.
Was down at the Mill Inn again on Sunday afternoon got another of their two course deals which is great value. The food was as always brilliant and the waiting staff were lovely. The only problem was the fact that the food and drink did take quite a time to arrive, however a wee word of encouragement and all was sorted. Will be looking for another deal soon. Well done.
Just had lunch at The Mill Inn with my hubby and son. The staff were very friendly and attentive, it was the food that was a bit of a disappointment to be honest. My cheesy garlic bread was floppy, for want of a better word! It was as if it had been put in the microwave to melt the cheese. It did taste OK though. Nachos for the other two starters, were OK too. I had the beer battered haddock with chips, peas and home made tartare sauce. The fish was really quite greasy, I couldn't finish it but the tartare sauce was delicious ???? my son ordered chips at the side to go with his steak but was told that the second bowl of chips was for sharing with my hubby. I asked the waitress about this but she said that the chips were for sharing!! When we went to pay for our meal, we weren't supplied with an itemised bill, it was just broken down in to food and drink categories. The prices were fairly reasonable and the building itself was really beautiful. Such a lovely country pub/restaurant, picturesque surroundings - such a shame that our food experience didn't live up to much. Don't think we will be returning ????
Have been here several times over the years but it has changed hands [again] and standards have slipped badly. Worst thing about our visit was that the gluten free steak pie was simply the pie filling with no pastry nor any substitute! I think that actually must contravene the trades descriptions act as it's not a pie if it doesn't have pastry of some sort at least on top, if not all round. For dessert I ordered ice cream and was offered a choice of vanilla, tablet, chocolate, strawberry. I chose vanilla and tablet however the waitress came back to tell me they did not have either of these. I really couldn't believe it - a restaurant with no vanilla ice cream! The only flavours they did have were chocolate, strawberry and raspberry ripple - not the most appealing combination. A large pool table in the centre of the restaurant adds nothing to the ambience either. The atmosphere just wasn't what it used to be.
