The coke tastes shite (every time) but the foods okay and garden/play area is brilliant
Food is awful, long waits, staff rude. Bitters always off and lager tastes awful. What's worse the owner doesn't care especially since he has put it up for sale.
We went to the Malthouse on May day bank holiday Monday,. Perhaps that was the mistake they didn't have enough staff for how busy it was to become. We went a couple of weeks ago to check it out after it had changed hands because we heard it was a good place for families. The new play equipment outside is excellent for our 2 boys. New wooden climbing frame with slides, and so we decided to go for lunch with my parents so the boys good play before and after lunch. We got there at 12 and the car park was empty. When we went in to eat it was starting to get a lot busier. I already saw one meal being returned because the order was wrong. It took us 10 minutes to get served for food at the bar, and over 45 minutes for the food to arrive. When it did arrive it was mediocre. My wife's chicken was not hot as had obviously been left standing.
Fortunately our 2 boys were very patient and said next time can we just go to the park without the pub!
Friendly staff and a warm feel to the pub, lovely open fires.
We did wonder why the car park was so empty at lunchtime and think we may have found the reason why.....
The food was massively disappointing.
My family had jacket potatoes, which were steaming hot but had obviously been cooked long before due to the texture and the topping looked dry as if it had been under a heat lamp for a while.
Nevertheless they were eaten without too much complaining.
I ordered a sausage and red onion chutney baguette, this was a huge let down.
The whole baguette was stone cold, including the sausages, which had never seen an oven or grill as they were just grey/pink in colour with not even the slightest hint of browning.
I ended up feeding them to the dog and eating the extra portion of chips (unfortunately the vinegar was watered down and didn’t taste of much either).
I would return to this pub for a drink but would not eat there again.
Good family destination pub with extensive wooden playground. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean restrooms and good baby change facilities. Bouncy castle was up and a bit uncontrolled but at parents risk.foid was good quantity although chips were underwhelming and slightly undercooked. no easy vegetarian option though the team will help make up an appropriate platter.
Shocking! We have been going for years due to being able to have a nice Carvery and beverage whilst the kids play. We went last week to celebrate our daughters birthday and we were massively disappointed. The pub was quiet and member of staff was polite. The seats were sticky which were eventually wiped and there were limited amount of things were left on the menu being midweek and apologised for only having one chef in and it taking longer then normal. The menu is basic and not very well presented. The children had water which smelt funny, can only assume it was the ice cubes as thought it was the glasses. We continued to order our meals and the children had pizza and chips with beans. You can’t go much wrong with that but the beans were bubbly like they have been sat in a tin for a little while in the fridge and microwaved up in the hope they were ok (they weren’t! They tasted funny) I had the Westcoast chilli and rice. It was disgusting! It had been slapped on the plate with no due care or attention and looked like it was even frozen mince or warmed up from frozen. The oil was all congealed and sauce was watery around the edges. It didn’t look very apertising at all and neither did it taste it too. We complained to the waitress and she didn’t apologise only made excuses and said it’s the same chilli they have been serving for the last 6 Months, no offer of a refund (you have to sadly pay first) or free pudding or cook of anything else. Bad service in my eyes. We will not be coming back. We left hungry and had the cake we brought to the restaurant back to our home to eat. I expect ok to be there if you were having a drink in the sun with the kids in the playpark but do not bother with food as will be a waste of your time and money as you will be getting a chippy on the way home!!
Awful. Not enough staff to cope with even half a dozen families. Took 90 mins to get food and even then the order was missing things. Friends of ours food was cold. Several other customers complained and got refunds. Manager wouldn't come out to speak to us. Gutless. Rubbish. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
Awful! Waited 90 mins for food on a saturday, arrived at 6.30pm with 2 kids so not impressed. Friends food not hot and last to arrive was a salad! They were giving so many refunds that day for poorly cooked food, they were under staffed and shouldn't have taken orders they couldn't deliver.
