Greeted by a lovely bar staff member, who served us straight away and took our food order. When our food came out it was steaming hot and it had great presentation. Will definitely be visiting again. I would recommend to all of you to come down and grab some nibbles of the menu.
We went for the weekend and had a lovely time. The owners were so helpful and lovely. The rooms were clean and what you’d expect for an inn and had tea and coffee, toiletries and towels. Would definitely go back after such a great experience with the owners - a huge thank you to them for all the tips (and the free shot each!).
Me and my partner checked in and after the long day we've had the dj downstairs was the way to brighten up the mood. Reasonably priced drinks and friendly and playfull staff which absolutely made our night. The room was clean and although the TV didnt work very well why should we let that ruin our experience? In fact, it made us spend more time with each other and value our own company more. 10/10 venue, definitely will be booking in again next time were in York!
Pubs gone extremely downhill and hasn’t been able to have a landlord that actually knows how to do their job. Has changed which is a shame, never have hardly any drinks options, empty bottles constantly atmosphere only seems to be somewhat decent when bands are there, even worse with not having enough drinks on busy band nights. Landlord has disgusting behaviour towards staff and customers swearing and shouting, spreading rumours and showing extremely immature behaviour. There’s no wonder all staff have left. Needs seriously sorting out. And on top of that they don’t serve food anymore. Don’t think the landlord drinking and vaping behind the bar on shift is responsible either. All in all turned really bad. Real shame.
Visited The Heworth Inn on Saturday. Have recently moved to the area and it was recommended by friends. Very friendly hosts and a good atmosphere. A DJ was playing cool music when we arrived and there was a tribute to Shane Macgowan at the end of his set which made our night. We had a really fun time and are looking forward to coming back soon.
Stayed for 4 nights. At £80 per night, we weren’t expecting the height of luxury. We were out and about all day and merely wanted a good nights sleep and somewhere to get ready. We got neither. ||The good stuff: the bed was comfy. The room was a decent size. Plenty of storage. Good location - just a 15 minute stroll into the centre - with a free car park. ||The not so good stuff: they didn’t have any record of our booking on arrival so we had a tense wait (after travelling 4+ hours) to see whether we could have a room. The barman offered a drink whilst we waited for him to hear back from the landlady. It might have been a nice touch if that had been ‘on the house’ been as we were hanging around for nearly an hour. It wasn’t. ||Room was finally sorted and we had something booked in York at 4 so we quickly dumped the bags and left. Was told there was no wifi because “it wasn’t working”. No major issue ||Got back late. Room was boiling hot. Heating on full pelt and no way of turning it down. Had to open all the windows which meant it was quite noisy (main road). The bathroom door kept blowing open and was very squeaky. Not the best night’s sleep. ||Next morning we realised there were no towels (or milk). Went to try and find someone but the place is deserted until the pub opens. Rang a mobile number from the booking. They did apologise and said it would be sorted. Shortly after, a knock at the door and towels thrust at me (obviously been woken up ????). Having looked more closely, there’s 1 bath towel and a hand towel (2 of us in the room) . Both threadbare and a bit smelly. Tried to find someone again but no luck. Made do. Shower was rubbish. Not much more than a drizzle which seemed to be either freezing or boiling. ||After another lovely day in York we tried once again to get towels and milk but with zero luck. By day 3 we had finally got towels but still no milk and toilet roll is pretty much run out at this point. ||Finally went to leave and had been pretty much blocked in on the car park. Again, no one around to try and get it moved so spent 15 minutes slowly inching the car out. ||York is amazing. We had a fab few days and will definitely return. But with little sleep and a real lack of the absolute basics, it won’t be to this place…|
Firstly let me say I am not a snob with hotels as long as it’s clean and has a decent bed! I can not see how this hotel has such good reviews! It’s awful!! Just returned from a 2 night stay had my car not got a puncture I’d of left yesterday! The room was apparently “deluxe” I dread to think what the other rooms looked like! Curtains were see through the TV didn’t work like who in 2023 has to retune a TV every time they want to watch it can only get 5 channels what all buffered when trying to watch it! Wallpaper as hanging off the walls, shower was filthy! Also LIE calling themself a bed and breakfast yet you go down in the morning there’s not a person in sight?! Saturday night there’s a DJ and it’s SO loud in the room. The young girl on the bar was friendly on Saturday night but Sunday she was obviously hungover and very rude! We only had 1 drink during our stay as the draft larger was disgusting they need to clean the lines! You only see anyone during pub hours! However the location was good and close to the centre 10/15 min work or £6 in a Uber at night! Safe to say I will not be back to this hotel and the need to review their price as £80 a night with no breakfast is daylight robbery!
Originally a very attractive late 19th century family house, with many interesting original features. The bars were refurbished a few years ago with decent carpets and seating. |Unfortunately the bar walls are covered with TV screens in every available space. We called in the late afternoon. There were more TV screens than customers, and in addition to the distraction of the TVs, conversation was impeded by heavy punk rock being played rather too loudly.|How difficult is it to just have a TV in one area ?|Not a place for a relaxing drink.
