Went for the first time on a friend’s recommendation because she’d gone years ago. Spent almost $30 per person to build a decent combo that exists on the menu of every other diner I’ve been to locally. Sausage gravy tasted like flour, hash wasn’t seasoned, brown gravy was lumpy, my friend had corned beef hash and it was undercooked. Potato pancakes tasted like funnel cakes. Service was just OK. After tip, spent $90 on the most mediocre meal I’ve had in Syracuse. Won’t be going back.
This is the best Ruben sandwich twist ever! It is a Ruben Burger. Perfectly made so that you taste the burger in the corned beef and the corned beef in the hamburger! Amazing flavor! I had mine without bread!
The service is the top notch! Best diner in Syracuse, NY
The host lied that we would have a 15-minute wait when we arrived. We waited over one hour. After we arrived, it became clear that there were 50 people ahead of us and all were told it was a 15-minute wait. They clearly were packing the wait area by giving false information so people would not leave if they knew how bad the actual wait was. The food was average and not worth that headache.
Our family chose The Gem Diner for breakfast. The service was fast and friendly. The decor is fantastic with a 50's old fashioned diner vibe. Our breakfasts were served hot and fresh to order. Overall, with many different choices in the area, The Gem Diner is one of our go-to favorites. Highly recommended.
Been here few times. The girls (hostesses) are not very welcome. A smile here and there would be nice. The place is usually busy and the food is great. Tasty! In general, staff could be more welcoming. On one ocasione the check was placed on the table 2 seconds after food arrived. Was planning on ordering cakes from the front but didn't get a chance.
It was a great, classic diner experience. When we arrived the parking lot was packed and assumed it would be a long wait, but we were pleasantly surprised that they had available seating. The staff were great and handled the volume of customers well. The food came out in a timely matter as well, and was reasonably priced. Definitely worth stopping in if you’re in the neighborhood!
The menu had a pretty large selection of items priced within a reasonable price range. The place is kept very clean. My hash browns were a bit greasy and plain; however, the omelette was delicious, you could really tastes the veggies. Coffee wasn’t burnt and tasted just right. The staff was very friendly and young. It was crowded and there was a pretty long wait as far a diners are concerned. Other than this everything else was just right if you’re really looking for a great diner experience
Enjoyed this place very much, took my grandmother who had not been in over 30 years and she loved it as well. The frittata topped with chili was the best!
