Stop here after my walks, friendly atmosphere, very welcoming. Built in the 1700s, when Whittlesey Mere was in its prime, and so catered for those tourists. Historical information on the walls regarding the Mere. Locals very informative about the area. I love this pub!
Nice olde worldy boozer.. low ceilings beams .. the ale was spot on..only critizism was the bar maid was cold and detached .. customer service is a prioritythese days as pubs are dying... hope was just a bad time.. but 1st impressions last...
Will be a shock to see this pub survive the energy crisis.
I went for a drink for my Grandad’s birthday with family. They are not welcoming of young people and the landlord* is extremely rude.
1) Bar staff are often nowhere to be seen as they are either smoking outside or drinking with the customers.
2) Scooters are not allowed in the premises and you are told to instead leave a scooter outside (they were told that it couldn’t be locked), although it could have been folded up and placed under the table or left in another room. - this is strange as (3) customers and staff alike will fill the room with smoke from vapes and (4) pets are allowed inside which could be inconsiderate of customer’s allergies, like myself. A scooter/bike is harmless to other customers which is why it is strange to see 3+4 being permitted instead.
After curiously asking why, I was told that “They are the rules”
5) The sole demographic of the pub seems to be people over the age of 40/50 and the pub seems to be only able to reach these customers as they would be either unable to travel the distance to another pub, or would prefer to avoid the children+families of the three horseshoes (the only other nearby pub).
This is all surprising as they are clearly struggling and you would expect them to want more customers - attracting a younger audience and being polite could have pulled in more people and began to slowly increase both their popularity and profits, although they seem way too far gone.
Very bad experience.
Since this review - i’ve been contacted by them being called “spoilt” and that this is a “temper tantrum.” And my scooter, the vehicle that makes it possible to see my grandparents on the other side of the city, was referred to as a “scooter wooter” - very original. Also stating both my job title and place of residence in a public forum as some form or retaliation?
One of the worst pubs I have ever had the displeasure of visiting, scruffy to say the least. Lipstick all over my glass, a head that deserves a flake and when I tried to eat my sadness away I found out they didn’t serve food. If your looking for a nice place to die this is the one. Bar tender was wearing a arctic monkeys shirt and I am big fan hence the 2 stars :))
Warm friendly, excellent beer. Big tv.
Utterly grim. Sticky surfaces, unfriendly staff, strange, vaguely threatening "league of gentleman local village" atmosphere. Drive for half an hour in any direction but don't go here.
DECENG Enough Pub, Unfortunately I Went There To Play Pool , But Unfortunately Was Not That Impressed With Pool Table, I Found It Very Tight Around That Area. 1 Thing I Will Say Is Drinks Were Quite Cheap Though.
Had food at A.B BBQ which is at the duck and drake and it was amazing.
Would definitely recommend, it's a hidden gem.
The pub garden was nice and staff were friendly and welcoming.
