Attractive lakeside setting but unfortunately the latest owner has done little to turn this place around. For months the restaurant has been woefully understaffed and service is unbelievably slow.
On one occasion I ordered eggs Benedict on muffins for breakfast and was told that there were no muffins and was presented with a wrinkly egg roll instead half an hour later. It looked awful but tasted reasonable.
This place has so much potential but lack of initiative is hampering it's prosperity. The front section, complete with a wood burning stove which is unused even on the coldest winter days, could easily be transformed into a bistro style snak lounge but presently is just a second rate extension to the main restaurant.
Lovely food and some nice craft beers if you ask.
Generously sized potions and a good price.
Parking outside with a surround of a lovey pond.
If you’re having the duck try not to look out the window
Food was good. Service efficient and pleasant. Interesting building hanging over the edge of the pond. Plenty of parking. Good disabled access.
Lovely setting by the pond. The stuff were attentive and polite, led by a really nice South African manager who couldn't do enough to help. The food was nice but a more varied menu would make a difference. Overall an excellent evening, to be repeated.
Came here for Mothers day and we loved it! I even got a little gift with lots of little goodies in it which I thought this was a really nice touch. Service was excellent, staff were very friendly and the restaurant was really busy which created a great atmosphere. Food was lovely and portions were a good size. My son and his girlfriend have enquired about this venue for their wedding next year as it is such a lovely setting. We had previously been to the restaurant a couple of years ago and it had went down hill, but we decided to try it again when they had their Mother's Day offer on. I can say it has improved massively and we will definitely be back.
I was wary of going back to the Crannog. After the old River House changed hands it really went downhill. However, we heard that the management had changed again so we decided to give it another go! As always, a fantastic setting, with views out over the small pond. It was very quiet when we arrived and we were nervous that it was going to be bad. Waiting staff were polite and attentive and we were seated and given drinks immediately. The menu looked reasonably good. We ordered some pasta dishes -prawn linguini and spaghetti carbonara. They arrived in good time and tasted delicious!! After, we shared some sticky toffee pudding with ice cream, also delicious! Bathrooms were reasonably clean although looked like they could do with a periodic deep clean. The manager from Northern Ireland was very friendly. All in all a great experience and we would definitely go back again! Well done.
"Gutted Again"
This place has seriously went down hill fast!!
Was in there 4 weeks and was disappointed at the service levels and the quality of the food, was also concerned at the lack of customers.
We only went back this evening as our friends were visiting from Cheshire and they really liked this place previously so we thought we would give it another go........big mistake!!
We arrived about 8.00pm and asked if they had a table for 4!! the young gent looked a t the computer screen for a short time then decided he could fit us in, there were only 12 other people within the place at this point !!
We were shown to a seat that was pushed up against another table that were already seating 4 other people, even though the place was empty!
2 starters were ordered, 1 had to be returned, the other was barley edible. The four main courses arrived and we had complaints relating to 2 of them.
We decided to pay the bill and get out agreeing not to return, although gutted as this was one of our favourite places to eat in Stirling previously.
Our friend asked to speak to the Manager / Supervisor to vent her disappointment as to the demise of her favourite eatery. The Supervisor sheepishly approached us as we were leaving and asked if we had any issues, after explaining the evenings events he just shrugged his shoulders and struggled to give any explanation as to why the service and food was so poor.
We wont be back anytime soon as there is nothing there to convince us that they have the ability to turn the place around.
Just one last thing, I have reviewed other comments online this evening and have noticed that the management are very selective to which comments they respond to !!
Great setting, great potential.....................how can you seriously get it so wrong?
My First Visit To this Restaurant very Disappointed the waiter was very untidy also the carpet needed a very Good Hoover. Our food came out The Sunday Roast was cold and the Yorkshire Puddings were scorched, the replacement dishes had to be sent back also!! On the third Time the waiter give my food to Another Table !
Food is Expensive and not worth the price Tag .
